‘Bold Negro Caused Great Excitement
~ on Fourth Avenue at an Early
Hour of Night. |
A great deal of excitement was caus
ed on Wednesday night by the appear:
ance of & negro at a window at the
home of Mrs. Ella Nelms on Fourth
avenue. His discovery and subsequent
actions were responsible for the
frightened lady giving vent to several
screams, which quickly brought to her
rescue & number of neighbor’s, who
instituted immediate search for the
black rascal who. was responsibie for
the severe fright.
A few minutes past ten o’clock Mrs..
Nelms walked out on the back porch
of her residence for the purpose of
closing the blinds to the dinning room
window when she was startled to die
cover through some lattice work that
partly enclosed the porch a negro man
stealthily creeping toward the window
of a bedroom. When addressed by
Mrs. Nelms, with a demand for an ex
planation of his presence there the
negro sprang through an open space at
her, and it was theno that her screams
aroused neighbors and caused the in
truder to precipitately flee and disap
pear ia the darkness.
An effort was made to secure dogs
with which to track the negro, but
they could not be obtained and the
search bad to be abandoned,
Owing to the darkness, Mrs. Nelms
did not recognize the intruder, but &
certain negro is suspected and further
developments may cause his arrest.
