(To the triends I've met there.)
THURSDAY, Sept. 15,1904,
['m at the spring,
Where everything
[ooks pat-u-ral to me
save that big crowd,
And lam proud
It 18 not here to see. |
But triends I've met
And can’t forget .
(ome rushing to my mind,
L Yet autumn tints
Give gentle hints ' ;
| came too late t 0 find,
Oh! what a treat
"Twould be to meet
These, a 8 il former years,
But since 1 can’t
[ quess 1 sha’nt
it down to weep 1n tears.
The same old mill
Beside the hill
Sings same old song of rest;
The same old Bpring,
God bless the thing,
[as stood the longest test.
The same old cows,
Content to browse
Within the same old dell,
Make same old sound
I've always found _
With same old tinkling bell.
Same music stand,
But not the band
[is soft sweet strains to play;
Same lofty peak,
e winding creek,
Same rock-bed waterway.
Same willows weep,
Same hillsides steep,
Same giant sighing pine,
Same little store
I saw before,
Same faithful dummy line.
Same shady trees,
Same gentle breeze
To cool the fevered cheek,
Qame little stream
Of which we dream—
Which thousands yearly seek.
Qame old big tree
Which all must see,
Same path leads to and fro,
Some bowling place,
Same nolsy chase,
Of balls—you’ve heard---you
know.
Same ruggcd ‘hills,
Same rippling rills,
Same marks of Father Time,
Same skies of blue,
Same varied hue,
All make a scene sublime.

NO BEES ARE YET BUZZING.
Not the Sign of a Stir in City Politics.
The Primary Will Be Held Much
Later Than Usual.
Notwithstanding that this is & year
of elections, and every oftice will have
to be filled from president down to dog
catcher, the Dawson voter is paying
no attention to politics, and doesn’t
scem to care whether the country and
town are ‘‘saved’’ or not.
Although the annual city election is
but little more than two months off
municipal politics were never quieter
than now. In fact, there does not
seem to be even a suspicion of politics
lurking in the breast of the patriotic
citizen.
A wayor, three aldermen and city
treasurer are to be elected—the terms
of Mayor J. R. Mercer, Alderman A.
M. Raines, J. G. Dean and F. M. Jen
nings, and City Treasurer W, A,
Baldwin expire—and usually at
this time of the year the primary has.
been held and these oficials chosen.
The city democratic executive com
mitte will probably take the matter
up at an early date, and tix a time
for the quiet and orderly expression of
the preference of voters for these im
portant positions.
