fUssists, g
Council, by an Ordinance, Says That
Firemen Only May Ride on the
Department's Wagons.
The city council has passed an
emergency ordinance prohibiting any
person or persons riding on the'fire
department trucks other than the fire
men themselves, with the exception of
those whom the chief of the depart
ment himself may invite or permit.
The ordinance is printed in this issue
of The News, and those who violate
it will be liable o fine or imprison
ment.
The enactment of this ordinance was
prompted by the fact that during cases
of fire, or during exercise hours, many
persons have taken the liberty of
mounting the trucks withoutinvitation
or permission. In case of fire no
time could be taken to remove them,
and their presence on the wagons was
a source of inconvenience to the de
partment.
The ordinance will be rigidly en
forced.
When ordering goods from your

THE METHODIST MEETING.
Began Sunday and Large Congrega
tions Are Attending the Services.
The special services at the Methedist
church began under very favorable
circumstances last Sunday. The con
gregations were large and manifested
considerable interest in the beginning.
The pastor conducted both services,
but he will have efficient help in the
pulpit this week and next week. Rev.
K. M. Overby arrived Monday after
noon and preached that night, and
Rev. W. N. Ainsworth of Macon came
Monday | night and preached at both
services yesterday. These gentlemen
are both able preachers, delivering
their messages in great power and
earnestness and with good effect.
They will remain through the week,
conducting services at 10 a. m., 3:30 p.
m. and 745 p. m. The afternoon
service will be held for the speecial
benefit of the children and young
people.
Rev. J. A. Thomas of Cuthbert will
preach next Sunday morning and
night, and during the following week
eigiht other preachers of the district
will be present rendering help in every
way possible,
The people: ot Dawssn ahd . sur
rouading ¢ountry are cordially invit
ed to attend the services, With the
hope that great benefit morally and
spiritually will be received by them.
Strictly Genuine.
Most of the patent medicine testi
monials are probably genuine. The
following notjce recently appeared in
the Atchison (Kan.) Globe: ‘‘Joe
Tack, a well-known engineer running
on the Missouri Pacific between Wich
ita and Kiowa, lately appeared in a
big one, with a picture, and when he
was in this oftice today we asked him
about it. He said he had terrific pains
in his stomach, and thought he had
cancer. His druggist recommended
Kodol and he says it ¢ured him. He
recommended it to others, who were
also cured.’”” Kodol Dyspepsia Cure

stomach troubles. Just as surely as

DISPENSARY FIGHT IN RANDOLPH
Representative-Elect Terry Gives No
tice of Proposed Measure.
The dispensary fight may be said to
be on over in the neighboring county
of Randolph. It will be remembered
that at the last state election Colonel
Dick Terry was elected to the legisla
ture on the dispensary issue, and in
last week's Cuthbert papers he gave
notice that at the coming session of
the general assembly he will introduce
a bill to establish a dispensary system
in that ¢ounty. His bill will provide
that the qiiestion shall be submitted
to the qualified voters of the county. -
The Cuthbert Liberal-Enterprise
speaks of the proposed measure
as “‘a bill to allow the voters of Ran
dolph county to say how they want
their drunkards made—through the
express office, the blind tiger route or
the dispensary.’’

COURT MONDAY WEEK.
A Number of lmport#nt Cases, Both
Clivil and Criminal, on Dockets.
The spring term of Terrell superior
court will convene next Monday week,
and Sheriff Oxford and Clerk Dozier
are busy getting affairs ready for this
important semi-annual occasion.
There are a number of important
civil cases on the docket and several
murder cases for trial, and the indi
cations are that the coming session
#lll be one of the most interesting
lcourts that has been held in the county
in several vears.
! Thers is some talk of requesting
Judge Sheffield not to hold court at
this time on account of the bad condi
‘tion of the crops, but it is believed
}that with good weather for the next
few days the farmers will cateh up
with their work and court can be held
withont serious injury to the agricul
tural interests.
BEWARE OF THE WIRES.
There Is Danger and Often Death in
Those on the Ground. ;
In view of the number of accidents
that have oceurred in Dawson recent
ly from live wires the following spe
cial from Madison, Ga., is of timely
interest:
“Young Jessie Thomas, son of J.V.
Thomas of this city, was badly injur
ed by a live electic wire late yesterday
afternvon. An old house was being
torn down near the boy’s home, and
the electric wire running through it fell
to the ground. The boy picked up
the wire about the time the current
was turned on to light the incandes
cent wires. He was badly shocked,
the current burning one of his hands
so that it is thought it will have to be
amputated. He was otherwise greatly
shocked, and is in a precarious con-i
dition.’"’ |

Has Been Convinced.

A negro woman in Terrell county
killed her husband the other day by
hitting him on the head with a limb.
She has evidently been convinced that
they can be killed by hitting them on
the head.
fWILL NOT SUE THE CITY
Mother of the Negro Who Was Electro
cuted by Light Wire Accepts
$lOO and Burial Expenses.
A settlement has been effected by
the city with Matilda Marshall, the
mother of the negro boy, Bob Bell,
who was killed a short time ago by
touching a metal rope connected with
an electric arc light and receiving the
full force of the electric current.
The amount given the woman in
compromise of her claim was $lOO and
the burial expenses of the boy.
The 85,000 damage suit against the
city that was talked of on account of
the death of Bell will, of course, not
now materialize.

You want to know how to do a ¢heap
job of painting, and haveit look good.
Here itis: The cheapest thing there
is in the way of a good-looking job—
say nothing about its being good—is
Devoe: the regular thing in Devoe.
The reason is: Devoe goes further
than anything else. ILead-and-oil is
good-looking: don’t go so far and
costs more. The other paints are
more or less short in one way or an
other;don’t go so far and costs more
than Devoe.
Devoe costs least of all; you dont
mind its lasting longer, do you? We
can’t help it; a point that goes further
lasts longer: we cant help it.
Yours truly ‘
