RATES STILL INs BALANCE
No Settlement in Royal Arcanum
. Matter of Tariff. A Card
from the Secretary.
Local members of the Royal Arca
num are still exercised over the pro
posed raise in the insurance rates of
the order, and are awaiting with in
terest the decision of the supreme
council, which is at present in Boston
considering protests against the new
schedule recently adopted. It is ex
pected that this conference will this
week announce its ultimatum in the
matter.
The following statement from the
secretary of the order was recently
published in the Insurance Herald:
“The rate tables adopted at Atlan
tic City were the result of many years
of work and they represent the high
est skill in the insurance business.
The simple fact is that the Royal Ar
canum has been conducting its busi
ness on a basis on which no insurance
business can be condueted and sur
vive. It took us twenty-eight years to
find this out and to find out on what
rate basis we could do business and
maintain our existence.
Reserve Fund Wiped Out.
““The result of that experience and
of over four yvears of hard study is
the series of rate tables adopted at
Atlantic City. We have a reserve
fund of about £2,000,000, and it was
only by giving the older members the
benefit of that fund, by wiping that
fund out and applying it to the uses
of the order—it was only by doing this
that the monthly dues for members 65
vears of age on a $3,000 policy were
kept kept down to where they are,
$16.08. But for the use of the reserve
fund in that way the monthly dues for
‘such members would have been a lit
tle over $22.
' “There is dissatisfaction among
some of these older members and it is
| perhaps natural that there should be.
[lt, is true that many of them have be-
I]onged to the order for a great num
ber of yvears and have paid their dues
regularly. But it is “also true that
during all those years their families
had the benefit of being protected by
|the order to the extent oi the money
on which they paid dues. That at
least should be considered by them
in estimating the exact extent of their
orievance from the increased rates."’

gun in a Short Time on Building.
The council has let the contract for

BIG DAY AT ADEL.
ADEL, GA., July 7.—Severzal thous
and visitors thronged the streets of
this city Wednesday, when the corner
stone of the new $lO,OOO Adel college
was laid. Congressman J. M. Griggs
made the speech of the day.
You have heard that some foods furnish fat,
other foods make muscle, and still others are
tissue building and heat forming.
‘ You know that most foods have one or more
| of these elements, but do you know that no
- : food contains them all in such properly balanced
' s proportions as a good soda cracker ?
U The United States Government report shows
o that soda crackers contain less water, are
, - richer in the muscle and fat elements, and
’ _ have a much higher per cent of the tissue
| building and heat forming properties than any
article of food made from flour.
That is why Uneeda Biscuit should form
an important part of every meal. They repre
sent the superlative of the soda cracker, all
their goodness and nourishment being brought
' ;s from the oven to you in a package that is proof
St e against air, moisture and dust—the price being
SEft. e too small to mention. |
