enjoyed a steady and substantial
growth, and he has been called unon
to take a number of advanced steps to

Alderman A. J. Hill and H. A. Pet

THE RETIRING MEMBERS.
Alderman Charles Deubler retired
from the council Friday night after 7
years of untiring and efficient service
to the city. He was chairman of the

to his energy and efforts that this de

that Dawson has never had a more

BODIES FOUND IN TREE TOPS.
Five Men Are Blown Into Pieces
by Powder Explosion.
The mixing house, or upper ‘‘punch
ing’’ department, of the DuPont Pow
der Mills, located eight miles north of
Birmingham, blew up Thursday
morning and five ' men met a horrible
death. The explosion was heard for
15 miles. The men who were killed
were employed in the mixing depart
ment, and while it has been the rule
not te allow mueh powder or dyamite
in these seperate rooms there was
enough to blow the building into
smithereens.
Parts of the bodies were found in
tree tops a quarter of a mile away
from the scene of the explosion.
