MAYOR MERCER'S MATINEE
_ |
SIX ACT COMEDY AT NEW PO
LICE HEADQUARTES MONDAY. |
Saturday’'s Work of Dawson’'s Faith
ful Blue-Coats Adds Nice Sum
to City's Exchequer.
At the police headquarters, re
cently completed in the rear of the
court house lot, was the scene Mon
day morning of the winding up of
the usual Saturday’s doings among
the ‘‘dark town’’ citizens.
The police were, as usuval, very
active Saturday and Saturday night
and considerable business was
docketed for Mayor Mercer to ad
just.
The first act of 4he program was
told by George Addison and Ella
Addison,who were brought forward
to tell how they had disturbed the
peace by fighting. They were re
quired to contribute to the city $ll,
and $l6 respectively. Ella was the
one who created so much excite
ment Saturday night by her screams
as she was being taken to the guard
house.
Lillias Lee, a ‘‘dark town’' belle,
was next brought forward, and in
a penitent strain told how she had
also disturbed the peace. As a
consequence of her escapade the
mayor added trimmings to the
amount of $l6.
Rip Cooledge, for whipping his
“better half’’ and shooting a pistol
in the city limits was also assessed
$l6.
Wess McLendon, for imbibing
too freely of dispensary ‘‘booze,’’
was fined £6.
John Harris, another ‘“‘cullud
jemman’’ was trimmed to the tune
of $ll for getting on the outside of
too much ‘‘cold corn’’ and raising a
“rough house’’ with some of his
brothers.
Crote Jones was sixth on the
program, and for fighting she was
also assessed $ll.
Altogether, the Monday session
of Mayor Mercer’'s matinee was
quite stormy for some of the par
ticipants, who will very likely not
want to play the leading role again.
Something new—College Ices—at the
City Pharmacy.
