Is Said to Have Used Mails to Swindle.
Franklin Stone, formerly of Phil
adelphia, and now giving Paris as
his home, who is wanted by the gov
ernment on an indictment charging
misuse of the mails in the Storey
tton transaction, involving the loss
zgt several millions of dollars, was
in Cincinnati Sunday, but disap
peared before dark.
Last year the Storey Cotton Com
pany’s failure was announced with
liabilities of about $7,000,000. In
dictments were returned against
Stone and F. E. Storey, president of
the company. Stone was located in
Cincinnati Sunday, and subjected to
an interview. He said Paris was his
home. Asked if he was afraid of
arrest, he said:
“Well, I have never been arrested

groom steals the bride quite often.
Columbus had a case Sunday in
which the usual order was reversed,
and the bride stole the groom, ac
cording to the statements made by
those who were in a position to
know,
Ernest Smith and Miss Margaret
Bence, of Miller's Ferry, near Dade
ville, Ala., reached Columbus ac
companied by a brother of the bride.
They told an officer they met that
they wanted to secure a marriage
license. The officer directed them to
the proper place.
When they applied for the license
it proved to be a case of where the
bride had stolen the groom. They
stated to the marriage license man
that the young man’s parents ob
jected to the marriage on account of
his age (he appeared to be about 25
years old), and so they decided to
come to Columbus and be married.
They secured a marriage license
without difficulty and Judge J. M.
Lennard spoke the words that were
necessary to make the two husband
and wife.
