A GREAT SACRIFICE
- Ot All Fine Goods
AT G. W. DOYIER & UIIINIP'S By =
In order to have money to handle our growing Credit and Supply Trade, which, on account of
the short crop and low price of cotton, will be much larger next year, we are going to reduce
at some price our immense stock of Fine Dress Goods, I%ine Clothing, Fine Wraps, line Shoes,
Fine Hats, and in fact every line of Fine Goods in our house.
—_— T WILL PAY ——m—/m/—/—/—/—/—/—/——/—/—/—
Us to sacrifice them and put the money out in supplies on credit next spring instead of having our shelves filled
with fine winter goods carried over. We have the largest and finest line of Dress Goods, Clothing, Wraps, Shoes,
Hats, etc., that we have ever had, and we can fill your every want. We can turn our money over faster and make
more money in a supply or credit business than we can in Fine Dress Goods, Clothing, etc. Be sure and don’t buy
a dollar’s worth until you see us; we MeaN BusiNEss. Thanking you kindly for past liberal trade, we are your friends,

was nothing but a name, for it was
minus houses, railway and inhabi
tants. But soon after sunrise next
morning fully 10,000 persons were
on the spot. The town was being
rapidly mapped out; the erection of
buildings was in progress; trains
were running; a railway station had
been erected, while two hotels, three
banks and a number of shops were
each doing quite a brisk business.
Almost as marvelous was the cre
ation of Lawton. Within fifty-five
minutes after the site of the town
had ben decided on no fewer than
5,000 lots were taken up. Two
hours later the population had in
creased to between 7,000 and 8,000
persons.
A score of eating places and
double that number of grocery and
other stores opened for business dur
ing the day. A bank, which was
conveyed to the town on wheels, was
able to start operations at once. A
fully equipped newspaper office was
likewise wheeled into the town,
ready for action, so to speak. But
the great business of the day was
lot speculation, some thousands of
lofs changing hands before the ven
ders had owned them many minutes.
SENATOR BACON 1S THE FIRST TO ARRIVE
Georgia Statesman Is in Wagai—r:gton to Attend Session of Con

glcac- e v catia - YOS R L SRR BT e
Washington, Nov. 20.—Senator
Bacon of Georgia is among the firstl
of the members of the upper house}
of congress to put in an appearancel
here. The senator’s health 1s great
ly improved, and the anxiety of his
friends here is much relieved. Fol
lowing an extremely strenuous sea
son of work on the railroad rate bill
in the last session, the Georgia
statesman almost immediately found
himself in the heat of a state cam
paign. As a result he was forced
to retire to Hot Springs, Va., where
the waters of that famous resort
have completely restored him. Al

! PALMER IS A MYSTERY.
Man of Excellent Pennsylvania Fam
ily Doing Time in Georgia.
An application has been filed with
lthe Georgia commission for commu
tation to present service of the life
sentence of a man whose name is
given as Wilson Palmer of Pittsburg,
Pa. Palmer was given a twenty-year
sentence in 1887 for the alleged rob
bery of the Mitchell residence in
Thomasville. After serving about
two years at Coal City he conspired
with some other convicts to escape.
In a fight which followed two guards
were killed and Palmer was twice
indicted for murder. He was sen
tenced to be hanged, but was com
muted to life imprisonment. 1t 18
isaid that he comes of an excellent
[Pittsburg family, and there is no
|doubt about the fact that attorneys’
fees have been forthcomirg all right
lto take care of his case.
For the past seventeen years he
has made a model prisoner, is a man
|of ability and even brilliant attain
. ments, it is stated, and a number of
| prominent Georgians have joined in
|the petition for his release. It is
lsaid it can be proven that he had
'no part in the Thomasville burglary.
Palmer’s real name is unknown.
GENEROUS ALASKA.
Alaska not only furnishes Uncle

WEALTH OF CHRIS CONNOR
PROVES TO BE FUNNY HOAX.
Had Matrimonial Designs, and Re
port That a Fortune Had Been
Left Him Grew.
Considerable light has . been
thrown upon the alleged fortune
which a New Yorker is said to have
left Chris Connor, formerly of Sa
vannah but now an express messen
ger at Waycross. The newspaper re
porters have been on Chris’ trail and
they have found that he has been
very industrious himself in scatter
ing the report of the windfall.
It has been found that the letters
addressed to the newspapers telling
of the great good fortune that had
come to the young man were in a
handwriting very much like his own
and that the stationery used was that
of the Southern Express Company,
upon which young Connor does most
of his writing.
Connor is engaged to marry a
young lady in Savannah and it de
velops that the engagement was
brought about largely because of the
fact that he had fallen heir to the
private car and several houses be
longing to his old friend in the north.
So far wnere have been no tangible
evidences that he has ben remem
bered in the will of a millionaire.
He wrote to the mother of his
fiance that he was going to send her
a clipping from a New York newspa
per with a full account of his legacy,
but the clipping has not come yet.
The impression is that somebody has
had a pipe dream and will soon
awake.

Governor Terrell has just repaid

We Sell Gooking Oil
Why pay 10 cents for
lard and lard compound
when we can sell you the
best of cooking oil, put
up in half gallon cans, at
8 cents per pound? Our
cooking oil goes farther
than hog’s lard or lard
compound, and is better
and more wholesome than
either. Some one has
said of the French that
they have gained a world
wide reputation for good
cooking because “they
make good bread, and
have the wit to keep
fresh olive oil in the
home and know how to
use it.” And so the
American housewife
could easily attain a sim
ilar reputation for much
skill in many home com
forts did she but appreci
ate the many excellencies
that lie in good refined
cotton seed oil.
