“The year 1882, continued-
Judae [Henderson, “was one of the
wost fruitful years thet Georgia has
ever known. It gave us the larg
est cotton crop in the history of
the state, the number of bales be
ing about 940,000. From that year
to the present the cotton crop
has oot fallen below 800,000 bales,
We had the largest corn crop then
about 33,000,000 bushels having
becn gathered. The wheat ¢op
tooted up 5,000,000, ‘Lhe year
1882 was a good year for nearly

Tue' lightning at Mr, Corl‘;?u's‘
residence in Vineville last [riday |
played some pranks; In ove room !
it followed a row ot pails in the
floor leaving a scorched track, In
another ronm it was attracted by a
mirror which it smashed into frags
mepts. In apother room it burned |
a hole and went throuzgh the heads
boird of a bedstead and then
through the side-board.

At a recent meeting of the Nas
tional Board of Marine Under
writers in New York city. It
was decided that other covering
than the present hivh priced bag
ging would do for cotton. There
will not be any discrimination
against cotton covered with any
light weight closely woven material
‘ot reasonable strength. However
if the material is very light, then
must be one or two extra
bonds and the sample holes be cov
ered. The farmers in the cotton
growing belt, can and ought to
write and “*bust” the trust.

THE IRON KING.
My dear, pray what shali we do?"
Once asked my loving wife;
We have no cook, you know, now,
To stem the kitchen’s strife;
This stooping and cooking
Over fires large and hot,
It perplexing and vexing,
Oh! who has felt it not?
“The labors of the kitchen,
~ Since our negroes went away,
Were both wilsome and wksome,
And still are =o to-day:
Can’t you lighten and brighten
This load of heavy care,
That distresses, oppresses,
And drives me to despair?”
Said I, «T'll go to FurTox's
And there a stove I'il buy,
No matter what the price is,
Ah Irox Kina I'll try;
Then roasting and toasting,
Will not wear away your life,
But a pleasure and a treasure
Be to you my angel wife)”
So down to town T hurried,
Almest as quick as thought,
And there from Joux A. I'urTox,
An Iron Kixa I bought;
And now broiling and boilice
Are the sweetest works in life,
No more caring, despairing,
Distresses now my wife.
Farewell, ye dirty negroes,
I'm independent now,
For wife can do the cooking,
With a smile upon her brow;
No whining, no repining,
No angry threatenings ring,
But my meals now, reveal now,
How cheap is Irox Kixa.
So now if you'd appease
A weary, suffering wife,
Her kitchen trials set at ease,
Secure a stove for life;
[t'll warm you and charm you,
Drive discontent away,
Both your wife then, and life then,
Prove sweet as flowers of May.
