A Pine Straw Ba:gi~g Fcélory for Law
<o, |
e |
The jute bagginy trust has de- |
veloped an indus vy in the south !
that brings into nse the heretofore |
worthless p'wo straw of our ‘orests, Y
snd which promises profitable re
turns to those who will put tlu‘-irl
mopey into its manufacture into
bagging. This baguing is suid to |
apswer every purpose of the jnte
and it iz much cheapor. I
Mr. Geo M. Brinson, of Eman
uel eounty, an rxtensive turpens '
tine sperator and nill nan. s
abont to go into th~ business, he
snys the straw from trees felled |
every day for saw mill purposes,
would furnish material for the wman
ufactuce for severa! weeks. He
ales clainig that he ean extract tur
pentine from the straw and thus
add anether profit to the indnstry.
We have the material here at our
very docrs, and if the husiness can
be made profitable anywhere it can
be made so here. ‘
If somie of onr imoreved men
would take the inititive and form a
atock company, we think they |
would meet with enconragement, [
anda bi; portion of thestock would |
be taken by those of nove linited
means. T his is something that just |
pow there s no competition in and
oonscquent!y there will be money
#a the business, besides it wil add
that much to the prosperity of the
eity. It is these seeniingly small
er:erprises that pay, and they are
tke kind we want, as they are best |
suited to our finances. l
We have alicady several pros-|
perous masufacturing industiics in )
Dawson, and all of them are crow- |
ded with business. Yet they met
with discouragement from the he- :
ginning and everyone predicted |
that they wouldn’t pay-—that they I
do pay is evident. |
Our columns are open for the
discussion of this cr any other mat. I
ter calculated 1o promote the pros |
perit)' of our towe. ]

Thie subject was freely dis

one and all agree that it would be a
big thing for Dawson. Besides
keeping a lurge amouui of money

The above shows that Mr. Smith
is one ot our best farmers. He says
he is with the rizht man in the
right place. Many such resul's are
being shown up by the farmers of
Terrell. This shows that our plan

*My dear, pray what shal: we do?" |
Once asked wy loving wite; !
We have no cook, vou know, now, ‘
To stem the kitchen’s strite; |
This stoopinge and cooking |
Over fires large and hot,
Is perplexing and vexing, l
Oh! who has elt it not?
“The libors of the kitchen, g ‘
Since our e roes went away,
Were both toifsome and rksome, 1
And stili are so to day;
Can’t vou lighten and brizhten
This-load of heavy care, .
That distresses, Oppresses, |
And drives me to despair?” |
Said I, “T'll go to FurtoN's |
And there a staove I'il buy,
No matter what the price is,
An Irox Kixg I'll try;
Then roasting and toasting,
Will not wear away your life,
But a pleasure and a treasure
Be to you my angel wife)” .
So down to town T hurried,
Almest as gnick as thought,
And there from Jonx A. Furrox, l
An Irox King I hought; ‘
And now broiling and boiliLg
Are the sweetest works iu life,
No more caring, despairing, |
Di-tresses now my wite. |
Farewell, ye dirty negroes,
I'm independent now,
For wife ean do the cooking,
With a smile upon her brow;
No whining, vo repining,
No angry threatenings ring,
But my meals now, revesl now,
How cheap is Iro~x King.
So now if you'd appease
A weary, soffering wife,
Her kitchen trials set at euse,
Secure a stove tor life;
Il warm you and charm you,
Drive discontent away,
Both your wite then, and life tken,
Prove sweet as flowers of May,
The above are the sentiments ot
at least one hundred nien, in this
and udjoining, counties to whom I
