THE UdOlilHi STOVE.
•
‘My dear, pray now what shall we do?’
Once asked my loving wi'e;
“We have no cook, you know, now,
To stem the kitchen’* strife;
'I las stooping, mil cook ng
Over fires large and hot,
Is perplexing and vexing,
Oh ! who has felt it not ?
‘ The labors of the kitchen,
Since nur negroes went away,
Were both toilsome and irksome,
And still are so to day ;
Can’t you lighten and brighten,
This loud of heavy care,
That distresses, oppresses,
Aud drives me to di-pair ?”
Said I, ‘ I’ll go to Fulton’s,
And there a Stove I’ll buy,
No matter what the juice is,
A Barley Sheaf I 11 try,
Then roasting and toasting,
Will not wear away your life,
But a pleasure and treasure
Be to you, my angel v\ ifo ’’
So down to town I hurried,
Almost as qu’ck as thought,
And there, from John A. Fulton,
A Barley mikaf I bought;
And now broning and boiling
Are the sweetest works in life,
No more earing, despairing,
Distresses now my wife.
Farewell, ye dirty negroes,
Pin independent now,
For wife canxto the cooking,
With u smile u[ on her brow ;
No whining, repining,
With face awry with grief,
But my meals now, reveal now,
How cheap was Barley Sheaf
So now if you’d appease,
A weary, scolding write.
Her kitchen tiials set a! case,
Secure a Stove foi love ;
It’ll warm you, and charm you,
Drive discontent away;
Both your wife then, and life then,
Prove s veet as flowers of May.
