Fltthep shall appear in @Ur ncjt, Here romes tlie Local— -1 As our article of last week seems to have croated some little excitement among the “gay and beautiful,” and produced some strange sensations at the heart of many a fair one, who will not be comforted becauso alone, has induced us to venture again upon an expression of our opinion in relatton to matrimonial alliances. Upon this sub. jeet we intend to be plain and practical. Although we were never caught in the trap ourselves, we have kuown so Many of our frieods who have fallen victims to the matrimonial malaria which has poisoned society ever since the days of Adam and Eve, that we feel author ized in giving expression to our opinion in relation to this important subject Well, wo honestly confess that wo would like to be joined to some guar dtan-angel, who could cheer us amid cur despondences and brighten our prospects along life’s cheerless way— to mend our clothes and “sing to us of heaven,” if in such an one we should find the sweetest temper and a heart lull of the milk of human kindno.-s, all would be well, but, on the contrary, \ if we should catch a tartar who would neither “sing nor sew,” we might bo ■ forced to conclude “Oh! woman, woman, whether lean or fat , In face an angel—but, in soul a cat!” Notwithstanding all these strange preliminaries and forebodings in rela tion to marriage thousands an; ventur ing upon its quicksands, and are often I ruined among the I reakers ahead. And yat it is omof those peculiar influences which come over the spirit of our! dreads, which will not suffer us to | profit bj r ’lie experience of th oso who have gone ahead of us, but, like the dreamless visions of the night, pass unheeded UDtil we are enlwinetl around by the matrimon'al chord, and very sson are made happy recipients of a house full of little respoimli’ities, to share with us the ills of future li-e,— However gloomy the prospect, we have determined to write our destiny to some fair damsel—we have long since ' concluded that it is not “good for man ! to be alone,” and should tho “bright! country lassie/’ who crossed our path oo Sabbath last, be of the same tnind l ha*‘ we possess, we shall be two b’fore the fl- 'Wers of May shall be nipt by tho frost 90/ November Should our ex treme m >a “sty present the importation of our inwa.'d feelings to the young blushing one oi (ur choice, ive trust that she may <»vt. r *®®P tb° stern de crees of the just it no “pop the ques tion,” in return she will T ueet with the response “Gome rcet ia this bosom, n jy o' wn stricken dear,” Though all have forsaken — it* x ocal is here, lie will stand by tl.ee in s'esnes®, oom'w and jmE But if you should die—he will marry agait' Basket Meeting— It was our pleasure to be present at a “basket .meeting” held at Salem Church in this county, on Sabbath last, and lo share the fiospilalities of the good .people Ail' that section on the occasion. The funeial services of Dr. Parris, delivered by tire Rev. Thus. T. Chris tian, tho much beloved ex pastor of our Mutfoodist Church, was a* able, sol emn, and bnf.reserve production, and was listened to by the large congrega tion present, with great attention and interest. The semion preached in the afternoon by Rev C. A. Crowell, was also an appropriate and interesting one, and we hope and believe that the ef forts of these two good men were not entirely futile. Tbe dinner was an abundant awl ex cellent one, reflecting great credit on tbe amiable matrons and pretty young ladies who prepared it. Mr. Christian preached to * Largo and delighted congregation tu this city Sabbath evening. Taro Soldiers. The telegraphic di spatefces es the last week announce a brief imeview between (Jen. Lee and Gen. Grant, I’res dent cf the Uniten States. The interview was, we understand, at the solicitation of the latter: and was the cause of much speculation among the quidnuncs, and political excitement seekers of the Amer ican Capital. 'But there was nothing in it after all. It was a mere mee'ing of two great captains—the first since they met on that fa'al day which ta Grant 1 the “sword of R b rt Lee,’ , and disbanded the little army of heroes | io gray who had followed that sword through so many bloody years—April 9 h, 1865, at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. There was muoh iu that first meeting—a Nation’s woe, down fall of Liberty, the abrogation of a Con stitution, the succession of Tyrany, <*p nression and corruption, and Natioual ruin. In this second meeting nothing, but the contrast which almost draws itself between these two "leaders of op posing hosts On-, a soldier in the ac ceptton of that word —a schalar, aud a gentleman $ the other a—President of ihe United States because of an ignored Pnnstiiu'ioo and a coriuot peodlu 1 We need not draw the s ic ur further.
