Found but few articles in place—all whs
confusion, a:.d wo ramc to the conclu
sion that the first day would be a fail
ure. After a eight’s work, much was
and me, and though the re is yet o unload
from the cars, unpack and put in place,
more th&u forty car loads, there was
enough on exhibition to- day to make
the State Fair o! Georgia a grand sue
oess; and in two daysJthe exhibition
will surpass anything or the kind ever
ttcco in the State.
We cannot enum rate tbo sights to
be seen; suffice it to say, that the 1 -ver
cf improved agricultural implement*,
of fiue stock, of machinery, of the fine
tarts, of alt the improvements ol the
day, can here see specimens of ntunat
all kinds, and from every section. We
are pleased to s e many working mrn
here from the East and \\ st —practic-
able, business men, representing their
several different interests; and, but for
some of the Hj bug politic ans, firmly
believe that the result of this vast rs
sembiage of people, will r-ful iu geo i
to the S ate, and to the South. The
exhibition of Velocipede riding, in
Huff’s Rink, wa3 quite interesting and
exciting; six or eight riders afe con
tending for the priz • : cno fr on New
York, but the race to-day was tvou by
a Ga. boy. Among ihe rid rs is a
young lady from the North, who rides
very gracefully, and makes good time.
The exhibition wiil last ten days, and
all who can possibly do so should visit
tbt«, tktri grandest of ail Fairs in the
State of Georgia.

Tfic New York Oemoerncy and
Hit; Fifteenth Amendment.
Tbe New York Democrats thioaten
tba reconsideration and caned a ion, by
the r newly elected L gislature, of the
icsolution of the f rnv.r General As
jf mb y ratifying tbe fifteenth c na’i u
ti>nal amendment, They ciatoj that
iatsuueh a ; it is c needed that O.iio
may ratify, after having once refused to
do so, A r sw York in y withdraw its for
m r ratification. The case is compli
cated by tbe fact that Gov. IT ft*,an
Lib c mipleted the work by communi
cating ths ritifiaatioo to the prop-r dc
partmont of toe Feieral Govcruno.it.
Tbe Republicans h ,ld that tnis closes
ibe nat er, on 1 that tbe new Leg Ha
lure cannot reopeu it. They also make
the point that there is a materi.l differ
euee between negative and positive ac
tion-—between a refusal to ratify and
tbe solemn aet of ratification. They
say that a trial to do a thing and a fail
ure does not '-reclude other trials, but
that, when the thing is done, there’s an
end of it.
The ratification of the fifteenth
amendment will not be “done,” until
it has been ratified by the ooostitu’ional
nunrher of States, and the pro«pect now
is that the Radices with all their ille
gal coercion and array of bayonets will
not be able.to force two thirds of the
States to vote away their liberties. Tbe
tiuality argument erne with a bad grace,
from a party whose so called r- construc
tion legislature hag been upon a sliding
scale to suit circumstances and gratify
the captfce of un unscrupulous taction.
