that he would jeopardize the political

On a visit to the new (’amp-ground
in Calhoun county we found quite a
large and comfortable harbor had
! been erected, and that Rev. C C.
■ i Brown, Rev J. J. Sessions, A Barnes,
W. G. Fierce, and H. Dyer, with
j their families, were occupying capa
ci us wood tents, and Col J. E. Plou
den and Dr. Fretwell had pitched
cloth tents. The number in attend
ance on Sabbath was large indeed—
estimated at near two thousand, and
j a more orderly, well behaved people
J we never saw before. The word of God
I delivered by the Rev. Mr. (’lark was
I listened to with unusual attention and
we can but believe that good will be
I the result of that day’s work. The
theme was a good one—one in
which all lovers ot Christcould proud
ly send up their amons and thankgiv
ing to the giver of all good, while lis
tening to its delivery. At the close of
the 11 o’clock service wo had almost
made up our mind-to do without din
ner, rather than to farther tax the
few tent holders; but, to our astonish
ment, there were fewer persons led at
tie tents than we had ever seen be
fore on Sunday at a camp-meeting;
and it was easily accounted for when
wo looked around and found that a
| score or more of the citizens had an
ticipated the large assembly and had j
come to the relief of the tent holders,
by preparing dinner, not for them
selves and families alone, but for the
multitude. We accepted the first in
| vitation given us, and shared the hos
j pitaliity of Col. J. E. Flouden and
lady.
We predict a bright future for the
Calhoun camp-ground, in tearing
down the strong holds of tiio wicked
one,and expect to see double the num
ber of tents next year, and
wish we could be oue of the list to
' help along the good cause.

Dawson, Ga., Oct 10 1870.
Messrs Editors : On last Wednesday
a party composed of delegates and
visitors from Banner Lodge, No 28,
I. O. of G. TANARUS., “one of which lam
proud to bo whom,” left this place for
the purpose of attending the meeting of;
our Grand Lodge convened at Ameri- ;
cus upon that date. Thinking that a
brief sketch of our journey, and its
attendant incidents, might prove in-,
terestiug to some of your readers, 1 1
tako the liberty of penning this, which
you can publish or not as you see
proper.
But, to begin: we left the Dawson j
Depot according to schedule time, (I j
guess as I did not liave any watchjand
it will be sufficient to assure every one j
that tho Alalo portion of the Party ;
enjoyed the “up trip ’ amazingly when
I say that we were accompanied by
three of Dawson’s Fairest Daughters;!
and I suppose that they, too, enjoyed j
themselves, if 1 may judge by the old J
adage which says, “that all persons
generally admire those qualities in
others which they themselves do not
possess;” and 1 am sure that they
(the aforesaid Fairest Daughters)
were accompanied by an equal num
ber of the ugliest Sons that Dawson
affords.
There was nothing of interest trans
pired on the way up, unless 1 should
tell that one of our Ladies (uninten
tionally on her part, of course) capti
vated h very handsome Dutchman ou
the train. I form the opinion from the
obliging manner in which ho loaned
me his knife when I told him that the j
lady next to me wished to borrow it,
and the “killin glances ’ which he
was continually casting upon us as
long as wo were in his company; but
I will drop that subject before I am
accused of tolling tales out of school, j
However, 1 must say that that Dutch
man was not the only man on that
train whose heart was in “a sack.”
When we ariived at Americus wo
Avere received by a Delegation of
Bros anil Sisters from Price l>odgo of,
that city, but as the citizens of Amer
icus are noted everywhere for their
hospitality and uutireiug zeal in be
half of any good and noble cause, it is
useless for mo to say that each and
all of us Avere made to feel pci fectly
at home tho moment avo disembarked
-trout tho train. Coming as Ave did
as Representatives of ttio most noblo
cause that God in his mercy ever
smiled upon, avo were sure to he hail
ed with joy in Americus. And noth- ;
ing will ever make me believe that
anv man, woman or child, ever visited
the place as a Representative of sunn
a cause Avho did not meet a hearty
welcome.
Tne ladies of our party, together
! with two of tho ugiiost brothers, ac- j
1 cepted a cordial invitation from Mr.
John V. Price, extented through his
1 courteous son, Mr. Lott Price, to make
his house our home during our stay.
! And just here let me say that it would
be impossible for any one with a soul
1 ever to enter that family circle, and
not heave a sigh of regret when tin
hour of departure came. The English
language lads to express the gratitude
l of our entire party to himself, kind
j lady, fair daughter and noble beys,
) for their many kindnesses toward us
duiing our sojourn with them. May
no dark clouds of adversity ever sweep
across the horizon of their lives, is
l tho sincere prayer of each and all of
us.
There are many others Avliom I
would be pleased to mention but time
and space will not admit; and it AA'ould
require more “Fodls-cap,’ than there
is in Dawson if 1 were to attempt to
speak ot all the good people of Amer
icus; their names are legion.
I shall not enter into tho details of
tho proceedings of the Grand Lodge,
as they will all soon be published.—
buflice it to say, that I have never
Avitnossed a more harmonious mooting,
or one where there was more broth
erly love and kindness displayed.—
Almost all the Lodges of the State
were represented, and the Avhole body
seemed to be animated by one spirit,
which was for the advancement of the
order—and, Messrs Editors, it is
bound to advance. Tho wheel has
been put in motion. Five thousand of
the noble sons and daughters have
put their shoulders to it to keep it in
motion, and not all tho Demons of
Hell anil tho Avine-cup can step it un
til our glorious Tri-colored banner is
planted in every house-hold in all our
broad and beautiful land.
On Wednesday evening there was
a reception of the Grand Ledge dele
gates and visitors in the College
Chapel, by Price Lodge. The whole
affair was grand and imposing. The
welcoming address was delivered
by Brother Ford,Past Worthy of Price
Lodge,in a manner reflecting great cred
it upon himself and the noble cause
for Avhich he spoke. Wo were addressed
during the evening by all the most
prominent men present, and I do not
think that there was a Sister or Broth
er present who did not feel that it Avas
good to be there, In fact I heard
an old Brother from Dawson avlio has
had a considerable amount of experi- ,
ence iu the way of camp-meetings, |
say that he never, in all his life, felt
more like shouting than he did dur
ing some of the meetings of thatLodgOj
and I heard another younger one say
that if the next meeting Avas held in
California he Avould be found trying
to get there.
But I have trespassed, too long upon
your patience, so I will close; and
Messrs. Editors if at any time I should
come up missing in these parts and
you hear any one enquiring for me
just tell them to go to Americus and
they AA'ill be apt to find
