C Ba s, of Macon Ga., I xv*l? pretteh on next Sabbath at the Methodist Church in Dawson. The wet weather coutinucs. We have showers daily, and aside from danif ness, and the lack of much stfnshine, tl e weather is delightful— particularly m j tyable when a fellow’s asleep. AV e have hoard the "resent wet weather ac counted for. An old dead -tree was | known to fall of its own accord the oth er day, and an old 1 tdy friend says this is a sure sign of a long wet spclL Ta* prosperity of the country de* jierids Opon the ere, s, and those who j ■wferc fbremoSt in ffnabling the plant tors to make their crops by material aid, deserve the thanks of tire public Among the first to proffer aid to fur j mers, was the house of J. W. 1" ears & Cos., of Macon, who have by their generosity and experience in business enabled many to save their crops, by selling goods on time. By advertise ment, it will bo seen, that they still keep large supplies, and are still en gaged in thiVcomiiiendablo work. Ladies, Don't Despair.—' Those who have as yet been prevented from looking over a fine assortment of dress-goodd, lroin various causes, u~U ,y ry si e’e Las been pick and over and many exhausted, still have a show ing, as it wdl be seen by the advertise ment of Orr, Brown & 0 >., that they have just roceivcd another most excel lent selecjon of fine dress goods and new styles of prints. They are selling cheap, and going off vapidly, however and we woul 1 advise the ladies be give them au early call. Food for tjie Pooh.— We are. au thorized by 0. H. Howard, Bureau Ageut for Dougherty, Lee and Ter rell counties to state that a month s supply of Corn and Bacon will be is sued, at this place, to such indigent people of Terrell county —white and colored—us can solemnly declare, and upon their word of honor certify- that they are in absolute need of food stating tho circumstances which ren der them so—on Tuesday, W ednes day and Thursday, the 23d, 24th and 25th J uly. An Established Institution.-— The merits of the “Iron Band and Arrow Tie,’’ have already made it one of the institutions iu a cotton country. Its simplicity, and its adaptability to the baling of oottoD, place it high in the estimation of all who try it, while it is acknowledged by shippers and insur ance men to bo the best protietion against fire—indeed, a number of agen cies have expressed their willingness to discriminate in its favor, when cotton is insured. We have never heard of its being tried by any planter who did not adopt its use on first trial. Read the advertisement of Jas. A. Hall, Agent at Maoon, Ga., in another col umn. Th* Frekdmen. — In the days of so cial and political disorders arising from the sudden change of relationship be tween two races of people, we can but congratulate the people of this vicinity upon their good fortune in avo'ding that wnieh brings about discord. Our people, both white and colored are in deed fortunate in beir.g thus far free from the contaminating influence of those evil-disposed hirelings of a bkod thirsty party, whose only hope of per petuation depends upon the misfor tunes of this downtrodden people.— There may have been visitants from the ranks of the peace haters to this goodly region ; but, if so, the better judgement of the blacks and the con sistent and liberal disposition of tho whites, have prevente 1 the seeds of evil sown by them from germinating, und everything with us is moving along as smoothly as we could wish. The whites realize their unfortunate situation. No are backward to ad vise, enlighten and befriend them; while the freedmen seem to realize their situation — to bemean themselves like rational men ; and act in such a manner its to win the confidence, sym pathy and respect of nil." Wo seldom hear of a tiisgareeineut bciwe n tho raeco in town, and there aro few pom p'aints from the cotton and corn fields Wfc would take occasion here to re mind the treedmen of the disgraceful disturbances that itinerant politicians and Yankee wire-workers have gotten others of thuir race into in other local tins ; and to the fact shat they have always resulted in injury to tho blacks,! while the only party benefilted was the political agent who incited the dif ficulty. Since they see tho result of tho teachings ot those Northern politi cians, we award to them more intelli gence than to need to be warned against them. Toiler From <aen. Toombs. The Cincinnati Ecquirer publishes tl e following; Washington,Ga., June 19, 1867. My Dear Sir t Your letter of the 6 h insUut was duly received, and would have been bi fore replied to but for my absence from home. Having but re ! cen'.ly arrived in the United States, I knew nothing of your proposed organi zation— what it was for, or who were in it—when I wrote my letter in reply to your’s of the 9th ult. After the recep- I tion of yours of the 6th inst., with the proceedings of tho Ciuciriaacti Conven i tion, I accept with the greatest pleasure ! the position to which I have been as ; signed, and will cheerfully give n.y ut most efforts to promote, establish and vital*** those principles. Toe first Kentucky resolution eon tains the principles of my whole politi cal life. I have stood by them from my youth to tho present hour. I have maiu'.aiue-d them in piocc aud war, in power aud out of power, in prosperity and adversity ; and I am ss ready to day as I was thirty years ago, when I I entered public life as a nullifitr, ‘to spend ar.d he Spent 1 in the sac-cd cause • and if my saeiifices of all sorts bad been a thousand times more tnan they have been, I should consider them well spent ‘‘for a lost cause,” raiher than accept any other interpretation of the Ameri can Constitution. I, therefore, accept any man as a br> tber, in peace or War, who will hon estly stand by and defend then*, i will be with him as Dng as the weakness of humanity will enable me to stand by the Dutbtn my own hurt. Therefore, “sink or swim, survive or perish,’’ lam with the West and South for the main tenan-'e of the Cinein'uatti Platform of April 13th. I will take immediate measures to or ganize the State of Georgia on that b sis, and will urge the true men of the (so called) ten rebel States to “fall into line.” You can sally count on them— I have tried them. I will leave here to-morrow with the view of beginntrg the organization in Georgia, and enlarging your subscrip tion, as the-means of pr maga'ing true constitutional ideas, and I will endeav or to send yon subscriptions, from time to time,, as the organiz :tion is enlarged. I regret nothing in the past but the dead and the failure, and I am to-day ready to use the best means I can command to establish the principles for which I fougb*. *’* * * I am rrspcctful’y and truly, your friend, R. Tnat the Presid nt’s Cabinet should he practically ignored, and the Executive Departments be cither blot ted out or run with the Congressional machin". 2. That the Judiciary, another cn or dinate branch of the government, should he secondary to Congress. Judges who do not agree to this are threatened with impeachment, or such legislation as will remore them from rflfi ’O. 3 That the old States South shall he re-admitted by Congress into the Union, whenever they aro ready to vote the Radio 1 ticket and support radical men and nr nslircs. 4.
