B. Nicholas, Democrat has been ap pointed postmaster at Adel, vice Ilimp wtead, .Radical, in Jail for stealing. A lady making inquiries of a boy about his father, an intemperate man, who had been sick for some time, asked whether he had regained bis appetite. ‘No ma’am,’ said the boy, ‘not exactly —his appetite is very poor, but bis drinkatke is as good as ewer.’ A priest asked a tipsy fellow leaning against a fence where he expected to go when he died. ‘lf I can't get along any better than sow,’ said ho, ‘I can’t go anywhere.’ Pr. Pollion, of France, says thatcold in the head can be cured by inhaling hartshorn. The inhalation by the cose should be seven or eight times in five minutes. Sam Goode says dancing not only tends to immorality, but it also has a withering influence upon starched shirt collars this warm weather. A conductor of a newspaper, speak ing o! a contemporary, says: “He was formerly a member of Congress, bat rapidly rose until he obtained aropeota able position as an editor—a noble ex ample of peseverance under depressing circumstances.” Young ladies in New Orleans wear false calves as a protection against mad dogs.' Judge 8., being loyal all over, was very active in such matters, and was appoin ted chairman of the meeting. There was a number of ladies present. The business progressed rapidly, and as most pf the articles for supper were to be donated, the Judge called, in his ludi crous manner, on those present to know how mueh they could contribute Al most enough was given to complete the arrangements, when someone suflgested that it would be necessary to have isome milk. “Ob, yes,” said the Judge, rising with great dignity, “all young ladies who give milk will please rise ’’ The young ladies didn’t rise.
