This District*/
We have, fur seme;imp, heard it
intimated that a certain prominent
gentleman, residing in the lower end
of tho district, wis anxious to run
as an independent candidate lor Cun

the radical party in the state lias said
positively that he would t un. It has
been denied by others that ho lias

Kearney Calls for the Cannon
and Swortl.
Kearney's Lowell speech, August 3.
Kearney took <IT Ms coat in the
usual style, and was loudly choeied. —
He opened his speech with the usual
attack on newspapers. These slimy
in>ps of bell, lie said had undertaken
to cast as persiwns on this upiising of
tho working men and on his humble
clfortsto elevate the masses. But
there is not editorial Brains enough
in this countiy to write me down. I
have muscle, voice and lungs to fight
these thieves, and give them notice
that if I were to meet the devil I
would split him in two and walk be
tween the pieces. I set the newspa
pers at defiance. Beecher never
swears. He preaches every Sunday
to a lazy set of loafers arid religious
gamblers, who have made corners
in everything, and have tiied to get
up a corner in hell, hut the sulphur
market refused to be bought up. and
bo they hire Beecher to knock tho
bottom out of hell, but we will give
them all the hell they want here. At
this noint Kearney took off his collar
w ith the r< mark that he could only
afford two collars a week. The “hor
ny-handed” responded to this with
loud cheers, \Ve want the tnen who
are ready and w illing to face the can
non's mouth, if necessary, in defense
of honest labor. 1 intend to go to
Indianapolis, Philadelphia, New York
and possibly to Chicago before 1 re
turn. Tnen I will come back to the
old Bay State ; then I will address the
workingmen of this Commonwealth in
every town and hamlet. The only
hope for the mas-es is agitation and
work. 1 never knew, nobody else
ever knew the workingmen to gain
anyttiirg except by the sword. We
havo the paper sword—the ballot
arid wo propose to cut tfre throats of
tho “political hummers” who havo so
long preyed on the industries of tho
workingmen of thisecuntry.

may be more easily imagined than
described. The happy grand-father
was carried ! otno by his son-in-law to
see hts daughter, and the reunion is
do ctibed as being affecting in the ex

Benton’s Speed Accelerators —the
price of which has been reduced to

Office of Patrick Daily, I
City Mat dial, Ni\v Yotk, >
June 11th, 1878 y
Wilbur C. Benton, Esq., Brownstoum,
Indiana:
Dear Sir —l havo given your speed
Accelerator s a thorough test, single,
double, attached them to th" reins, to
the saddle, ovordiaw and cheek-rein.
In my judgment they are the mist
excellent tilings ever invented to pro
duce speed and comfort for horses.
Hoi semen and humanitarians have
for years sought to invent attachments
for horses mouths, the former looking
principally to speed, the latter seek
ing relief for the horse from the strain
of checks and hits on the mouth
The Accelerators accomplish both, for
they remove the permanent strain of
checks and bits from the mouth and
head of the horse by imparting the
proper elas'ici'y, which the horse
feels immediately, and improves at
once in style and speed. Owners of
horses, whether trotters,_ roadsters,
coaeh or business horses, should use
them. Any horseman who gives our
Accelerators a ttial will not only in
dorse what I say, but recommend
them to every one owning horses.
Hoping you will succeed In estab
lishing what I firmly believe to be the
best tiring ever devised for horse- 1 , is
tne wish of one thoroughly convioc
ed of their usefulness.
Yours truly,
Patrick Daiiy, City Marshal.

CELEBRATED
LIVER PILLS,
FOR THE CURE OF
Hepatitis, or Liver Complaint,
DYSPEPSIA AND SICK HEADACHE.
Symptoms of a Diseased Liver.
I JAIN in the right side, under the
edge of the ribs, increases on pres
sure; sometimes the pain is in the left
side; the patient is rarely able to lie
on the left side ; sometimes the pain is
felt under the shoulder blade, and it
frequently extends to the top of the
shoulder, and. is sometimes mistaken
for rheumatism in the arm. The
stomach is affected with loss of appe
tite and sickness; the bowels in gen
eral are costive, sometimes alternative
with lax; the head is troubled with
pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy
sensation in die back part. There is
generally a considerable loss of mem
ory, accompanied with a painful sen
sation of having left undone some
thing which ought to have been done.
A slight, dry cough is sometimes an
attendant. The patient complains of
weariness and debility; he is easily
startled, his feet are cold or burning,
and he complains of a prickly sensa
tion of the skin; his spirits are low;
and although he is satisfied that exer
cise would be beneficial to him, yet
he can scarcely summon up fortitude
enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts
every remedy. Several of the above
"symptoms attend the disease, but cases
have occurred where few of them ex
isted, yet examination of the body,
after death, has shown the liver to
have been extensively deranged.
AGUE AND FEVER.
Dr. C. McLane’s Liver Pills, itt
cases of Ague and Fever, when
taken with Quinine, are productive of
the most happy results. No better
cathartic can be used, preparatory to,
or after taking Quinine. We would
advise all who are afflicted with this
disease to give them a fair trial.
For all bilious derangements, and as
a simple purgative, they are unequaled.
BEWARE OF IMITATIONS.
The genuine arc never sugar coated.
Every box has a red wax seal on the lid,
with the impression Du. McLane’s Liver

The genuine McLane’s Liver Pills bear
the signatures of C. McLane and Fleming
