WE are pleased to announce that Col. Belva Lockwood has re ¢ired from politics and resnmwmed ber knitting. MoxEY is scarcs, bat the jog bnsiness betwen Dawson and Ran. B,lpk county flourishes as it never did bofore. IT seems from evidence ad duced as thcugh Farmer Living #ton has ceased spading in the political garden and turned his sttention to lobbying. Tre Albany News thinks the ordimar2e in Dawson against enow balling ridiculous. There are others who shaie with the News iu its opinion. It will soon be in or 'er to turn over a mew leaf and resolve to be 8 better person. These resolves are mostly made while experience & well developed headache. THE legislature adjourned one day last weok and played snew ®all with the boys. Of course they were seut there to play snow dall and not to attend to business. “YrLLowsTONE Kll still holds the fort in Albany. If the News fs to be relied on, “Dr. Kit” is the biggest attraction that has visitad the hamlet lo these many years, A party guilty of felony and evading the Sheriff was recently arrested in South Georgia while asing a free pass borrowed froma member of the esteemed legisla ture. ALBANY is still endeavoring to get a free bridge over the Flint. Bat, then, Albany is .lways en deavoring to get something, and she generally succeelds. We ad wire her pluck. A MicRIGAN man offers to start & bank if the citizens of the town will give him a brick building and $lOO,OOO in cash. We weuldn't mind doing a banking business on the same terms. THr great nations of Ilurope are quietly but actively engaged In warlike preparations. They all seam to scent danger from afur and are patting on their armor making ready for fight. Hox..J. E. ScHovieLe, repre #entative from Bibb, is not pleas ed with matters abont Joe Brown's Dade coal mines. What he says of them can be learned . By referring to cur first page. Tre “widower,” the ‘“grass s dower” and the “charming Miss 8Boandso” always receive due at sion in the columns of the Savan mah Loeal. Colonsl Otto is evi dently an admirer of the weaker Fossol. ; Pamsox FrLTONis waging a ro dentless warfare against the “fo'in’ bowl” in any shape, and has introduced a bill to tax wine rooms $lO,OOO each. It is intend -61 to meet the emergency in At lanta. The Atlanta folks should dose the Parson with agaric. Tar Detroit Free Press saysa mohine has been invented which will sew on buttons as fast as sev en girls could do the work, bu when it comes to sitting up of a Banday night with a young man éeven machines can’t begin to do ¢he work of one girl. There is no Cear of any invention driving the girls ou’ of market. Jas. P. Harrisoy, in his testi mony before the legislative inves tigating committee, admits that ho epent $3,000 in trying to get the legislature to use Gieorgia marble inatwad of oolitic lime stone for the new capitol building. Jim aute P. has evidently been lobby ing, but we don’t suppose he in tonded to tell it. Tue Quitman Free Press says “the melon growers of Brooks ouaty are making preparations to plant the largest melon crop they baveever put in. Mr. Branch has a high stand among the membess of the couference. He is a man of de cided allity, considerable learn ing rnd is especially d sting i ed as a preacber. In addition to these intellectual gifts, he is a simple hearted, earnest Christian, fall of love and sympathy for all. He was greatly beloved by the young people of his lats charge, and they surrender him with great re gret. Rev. A, M. Wiihams, It is universally regretted by our people that conferenca saw iit to remove Rev. A. M. Williams from Dawson to Americus. Mr. Williams is a good Christian gen tleman and is very popular here, where he has labored for the last two years. Thle wishes of the en tire community go with him and his family to their new home. Pohiee Officers. The eity will be well policed another year. The new eonncil has re-clected Marshal Hatcher and elected Mr. Nick Kenney po liceman. My, Hatcher,as we have frequently said, has no superior as policeman, and Mr. Keuney takes to the billy like an old vet eran. In Mr. Keuney Marsha Hateber will have a capable and fearless assistant. The Closing of the Schools, The fall term of the Owen Nel s Institate will eclose next Wedaesday afternoon and the College will elose Thursday fol lowing. Both schools have been very successful under their prezent managements and we predict for them a more uzeful ecarcer an other year. --The catarrh remedy, Ely's Cream Balm has proved most sat isfactory. Prior totwo months ago I had not breatlied freely through my nose for three years, now I am but little bothered in that respect. The pain has left my head as have most other disagreeable symp toms.
