Page 2A— Wednesday, October 8, 2025, The True Citizen Collins receives Georgia Farm Bureau District Award MACON, Ga. - Cliff Collins received the Georgia Farm Bu reau (GFB) 4th District Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Excellence in Agriculture Award during the recent GFB 4th District Annual Meeting. Collins grew up on his fam ily’s beef cattle and timber farm and taught agriculture education for four years be fore transitioning into his current role as a University of Georgia Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Burke County. He lives in Waynesboro. An active member of Farm Bureau, Collins has chaired the Columbia County Farm Bureau YF&R Committee since 2021 and regularly at tends the state Young Farmers and Ranchers Summer Lead ership Conference. He also helped plan the YF&R Fishing Tournament. 1 Exchange Club members recognized for years of service Waynesboro Exchange Club members who have 25 or more years of service were recognized by the Regional Exchange Club President, Rhonda Busby, and National President - Elect, Fussell Hughes. In addition to assisting with his family’s beef cattle opera tion, Collins operates a small beekeeping business, manag ing about 50 hives and selling honey at local retail outlets. He also serves as a liaison for the Georgia Department of Agriculture and Federal Emer gency Management Agency. He also serves on the local Cattlemen’s Directors Com mittee and local FFA Alumni Council. The Excellence in Agricul ture Award recognizes Young Farmers & Ranchers ages 18-35 for their ag advocacy ef forts, leadership skills and par ticipation in Farm Bureau and other groups. Most applicants do not make the majority of their income from production agriculture. Founded in 1937, the Geor gia Farm Bureau Federation is the state’s largest general farm organization with 158 county chapters. As a membership- driven, nongovernmental or ganization, GFB serves as the voice of Georgia farmers and rural Georgia by advocating for them on legislative issues and promoting Georgia commodi ties. Its volunteer members also actively participate in activi ties that promote agriculture awareness. GFB membership is open to the public and offers a wide variety of benefits, including insurance and discounts for health services, travel and fam ily entertainment. Adam also said that his stu dio stresses more than just self-defense, it also puts a high value on fitness and discipline. “It takes over eight years to achieve black belt,” said Adam. “So there’s a lot of hard work involved.” Once you have received black belt certification, which Adam has, being a 3rd degree black belt, you have earned to right to be called a professor. “Because it takes eight years to get there, it’s almost like achieving a doctorate, so in structors who’ve gotten there are called professors.” When asked if the studio has been well received in Down- town Waynesboro Adam was very positive. “Absolutely. We’ve got ten nothing but love, nothing but support,” he said. “Every review we’ve gotten has been very good.” He’s also very happy with the new location of the studio. “I love it. It’s the perfect lo cation,” he said. “We get a lot of walk-up traffic. Sometimes when we’re doing classes, I often see people standing out side writing down the phone number and sometimes they just pop right in.” Waynesboro Martial Arts has other teachers and trainers who work with students but Adam Continued from front is the only certified, licensed trainer.
