One of the most beautiful a md
elaborate affairs ever given in Ma
con was the reception ¥riday even
ing with which Dr. and Mrs. Pick
ard entertained for the members
of the Mercer faculty 2nd the stu
dent body.
The whole lower floor: gave the
appearance of a summer flower
garden, with its myriads of chry
santhemums, roses and smilax
aid everywhrre roses and chry
santhemuns in large clusters filled
vases and banked the mantles.
In one room where punch was
served, bamboo and smilax with
deep yellow flowers formed another
charming picture. ‘
Serving punch were a group of
attractive young women including
Misses Cornelia Pickard of Tifton,
Marie Colcond of Atlanta, Mr s
Paul Karsten, Miss Prin gle Willing
ha m, Chas. Grifin of Eastman,
Mrs. Willis Cole and Miss Jeffie
Person of Fitzgerald, Misses Emae
and Kirby Willingham.
Mrs. Pickard received her guests
wearing a gown of lavender char
meuse with touches of real lace
and a corsage bouquet of orchids
Mrs. Karsten's gown was of net
built on apricot satin with bands
of silver and fur.
Mrs. Cole wore a yellow chiffon‘
over satin embroidered in for-get
me:nots with a corsage of car- |
nations,
~ Miss Jeffie Persons wore a blue\
crepe de cnine with a corsage of
| pink carnations. ‘
~ Miss Cornelia Pickard wore a
gown of turquoise taffeta and a
’corsage of pink roses.
About four hundred guests called
during the evening. .
