MRS. WATKIN'S CLASS
GIVES MUSICAL
The recital given ny Mrs. Newton
Watkin's music pupils at the auditor
ium of the Central Methodist Sunday
School last Friday evening was a very
beautiful and pleasing affair.
The weather was some what inclem
ent but quite a large crowd witnessed
the evenings entertainment.
The auditorium was beautifully dec
orated for the occasion, and every
thing was arranged tastefully and ar
tistically.
Flowers were in profusion. White
shasta daisies and hydrangias togeth
er with green ferns were the chief dec- |
orations, |
Tall baskets of white daisies were
plared on pedastals, grouped around
the piano, and large jardiniers of hy
drangias were everywhere,
The effect was altogether very beau
tiful. The young girls thirty odd in
number marched from one of the low
er left rooms, all dressed in airy, dain
ty costumes of white organdy, and the
setting of flowers and greenery pre
sented a pleasing picture.
The program was splendidly exe
cuted, showing talent and careful
training. Each selection was played
from memory and ecach performer
'deservcd some special mention.
Some of the numbers were quite
difficult for such youthul performers,
but well rendered. The fairy fingers
gliding so gracefully over the keys in
runs and trills, and then over some
more difficut passage, showing tech
nic and time well markel.
The boys must not be forgotten who
performed their part equally as wall.
The duet played by John Dorminy
and Mrs. Watkins was exceptional
ly fine.
Mrs. Watkins is a teacher of more
than unusual ability, and the splendid
work she has done with her pupils
and especially among the children, de
serve special praise,
Her popularity has been fully prov
en by the large number of pupils she
has from year to year, and the enter
tainments she has given have attract
¢d more than ord'qmry attendron.
