Wilson were in Athens Wednesday. Miss Luciie Burroughs spent the week end with homefolks in Ila. Mrs. A. S. Westbrook arc! Mrs. E dith White Marion of Ila were in onr town Tuesday. Miss Luciie Whitworth of Colbert, ■who was a student at M. C. H. S. last term visited friends here the first of the week. Mr. W. D. Meadow made a business Jrip to Athens Wednesday. Madison County Singing Conven tion will meet at the Danielsville Baptist church, September the 19th ■and 20th. * IN HONOR OF MRS MARY CROW i Avery pleasant day for all pres- ■ nt was enjoyed by a large number ; of people at the home of Mr. T. E. Crow near James Spring, Sunday, Sept. 7th. -Ml* The occasion was a dinner given in honor Mrs. Mary Crow on her seventy-fourth (74) birthday. Mrs. Crow who despite her 74 years is well and active, seemed de lighted with the presence of her 14 son- and daughter (some of whom had come from a distance of several hundred miles) and their numerous children and grandchildern. Dinner was served out-doors on a long table, which was simply loaded ff ith good things to cat. In the crowd which was estimated 31 between 150 and 175 there were f- few near relatives other than di rct decendants, notably: the John Crow’s of Commerce, and Mrs. Crow’ " nl >’ living brother, Mr. Frank Me-' Clarity of Royston. Mr. Morica, the bridge man, left for Atlanta on Saturday, accompa nied by his wife. ' Quite a number of Ila people at tended tr.e singing at Union church on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Howard Vaughn killed a rat tle snake on Monday which measured 53 inches in length and had nine rattles. Miss Grace Gurley left for her school in College Park on Saturday la“t. Misses Gladelle and Floyce Bur roughs are attending school in Ila. Mr. Harrison Glenn of Wesley Chapel was in Ila on Monday. P>ig Carnival at the Ila School auditorium on Friday night, Sept. 12th; Admission 10c. Cotton ginning is in order hero with a poor turnout so far. ■ M. Y. Freeman prefers the gutter rather Chan the highway for running his car. COLBERT Mrs. W. W. Barnett and Mrs. C W. Porterfield were joint hostesses to the Woman’s Club, on last Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Bar nett. In the absence of the President the meeting was presided over by Miss Susie Sorrells, Vice-president. After the singing of “America,” the roll was called and minutes read. There were 17 members present. Reports were heard from the differ ent cornmitttees and the by-laws were read by Mrs. H. C. HaTdman who i‘J Parliamentarian. A beautiful musi cal program had been prepared by M rs. Porterfield and Mrs. Loden and wa enjo xd by all.
