GRADY “When every farmer in the South shall eat bread from his own fields and meat from his own pasture, and disturbed by no creditor and enslaved by no debt, shall sit amid his teeming gardens and orchards and vine yards and dairies and barn yards, pitching his crops in his own wisdom and growing them in independence, making cot ton his clean surplus, and sel ling it in his own time, and in h's chosen market, and not at a master’s bidding—getting his pay a e h and not in a receipt ed mortgage that'd -charges his debt, but does not restore his freedom —then shall be the breaking of the fullness of our day.” MADISON COUNTY SINGING CONVENTION The Madison County Singing Con vention wh : ch held its annual ses sion at the Baptist church, Daniels vide, last Friday and Saturday, was a decided success from many view 1 points. Prof. John W. Brown was re-elected President; 1.. F. Cromer, Vice-President; and G. L. Sailers, Secretary. Pro. Brown has served for some thirty years to the very great pleas ure and satisfaction of hi.s host of friends and admirers. The Conven tion was largely attended, with an overflowing house on Saturday. Many counties were represented. Prof. J. L. More, Mrs J. B. Vaughn, Prof. A II Purcell, and many other singers came bringing with thorn a spirit that spread like magic. Rev. W. M. Sayo of Athens war. present, and led the Convention in a most able prayer, beseeching the Father for the man ifestation of His Spirit, which was graciously given. The spirit of good fellowship pre vailed throughout, and as the crowd grew, broader grew the welcoming* smile upon the faces of the Daniels ville folks. Truly there was no cause for alarm; Daniclsville had never failed on an occasion like this, and her manner of entertainment and hospitality to her guests on this one was grand, and will long bo remem bered. —Contributed, G.
