The Navy Recruiting Office in Ath
ens notes with pride the recent grad
uation of Joseph Robbie Hughes of
Danielsville, Ga. from the Machinist
Mates School at Hampton Roads,
Virginia.
Joseph Robbie Hughes enlisted in
the Navy at Athens, Ga., on * July
23, 1923, and is forging ahead rap
idly .
The Course at the Machinist Mates
School is of 38 Weeks duration and
converts the average unskilled youth
into a finished machinist.
In view of the fact that the Navy
spends many millions in the construc
tion of its wonderful battleships, it
is only fair that it maintain the high
est grade of skilled labor attainable,
in order to protect its investment
and maintain a Navy of the highest
proficiency—hence this school.
The Machinist Mates School is on
ly one of thirty schools operated by
the United States Navy for its men.
