THIS day came before me Jeremy
Stone, who being duly sworn saith
that some time in the year eighteen
hundred and twenty-one this deponent
transferred and delivered to Roger
McCall, a note on William Shipp for
fifteen dollars; one note on William
Horne for thirty-nine dollars, and also
one note on James Phillips for twenty
three dollars forty three and three
fourth cents. The first note was due
the 25th December 1821 ; the other
two notes were payable to this depo
nent one day after the date, ail dated
intliatvear: and there were no cred
its on either of them when traded to
said McCall.

McCall was in possession of three
Notes, one on \\ illiam llorne, one on
“William Shipp and one on James Phil
lips and it further appearing that said
notes have been lost, and copies of
which in substance are tiled in
this office—-on motion it is ordered
the said IFilliam Horne, It ‘illiam
Shipp, and James Phillips, be and ap
pear at this court on the first day of
next term and shew cause, if any they
have, why said copies should not be
established m lieu of lost originals;
and that this rule be published once a
month for three months in one of the
gazettes of this state.

announcing to the literary characters
in the United .States of America, that

which 1 am now employed in collating
wit'n the original, progressively wri
tjng its index. To those of my fellow
citizens who have not had the oppor
tunity of reading this work in French,
which is so much, and I believe, dc
scrvedly admired every where, and es
pecially in America and in England,
whose systems of jurisprudence are
the subjects of emulation of every ci
vdi/.ed community, 1 would observe,
t ,! at it is on record, that Napoleon
-took More pride in this compilation of
his than in all his other achieve
ments.
