August 2.—This is the time of year for I ol C aud^b'd l ° n 2 Viait9 ’ 8lcWr Yesterday was the first dsy of the month nnd the first Tuesday, which brought sale day again and with It brought a good ly ut.iaU: of «.2t people to town, mostly i raoMit—. I have no reoollectlon of ever seeing such a large crowd of good, clever male citizens in McDonough at any one time os was on ar streets yesterday. There were less than three hundred can didates here yesterday, looking around for one office or another. Most of tho num ber that I saw (of oourro I could not see them all) were nnx<otu to represent mo and a few other floaters in the next Gen eral Assembly. come, for when it docs come I’m sure to bo popular, st least with onv class, sud that is the office-seeker*. How they will brag on try good looks, and tell roc that I’m get ting rich, nnd how glad they are that Pi “coming out of the kinksj" then how they lag to come ont and nurse me If I will only let them know if I need their assistance; they are even willing to foot physi- clan’s bill if I have to call in medical aid. Oh, I'll tell yoo, Messrs. Editors, I’m hav~ ing a “hog-killlng-Hrao'' just now, if the weather Is hot and rainy. I do believe if these people called candi date* don't quit making so much of mo that I’ll be sure to have a spell of the “big head" that will last me till wny next spring, when people begin to buy their rations and guano on credit. Wo have many things up here to be proud of, and a few to be sorry for. We are glad we have good crops, good preach ers, good teachers, good men, and last, but not least, good women. We are sorry for tho lore of tho Hon. A. O. Bacon for govornor Remember Henry oouoty was solid for Bacon. We nro sorry again for “our ooasin,” Nat Ham mond, who, I believe, will accept the nomination again from the bunds of the Congressional convention if tendured him. Now, os for “Cousin Nat,” wo be* liovd he ought toe step down ana oat aud give place for others, as there are ether men whd eat sugar sometimes when they c*nget it. We have a man in our midst whom we want to represent us this time. He is u small man, but be loves sugar all the same. Our little man has done a heap ot work in the State legislators, both in the llonse and 8enate. A great deal of that work was do.e after the redaction of the wage* from nine dollars a day to four; so you see he got but little sugar for the labors he i-ertormed. I allude to the Hon.
