Toombs Connty.
Bill to Create County Passes the House
Inanimousl). No Opposition at all.
Will Pass Senate Also.
The bill pending before the Georgia
legislature to create the county i»f
Toombs with Lyons as the county seat,
and which was unanimously reported
favorably by the Senate and House
Committees last week, passed the
House Monday without a dissenting,
vote, and a motion was made and unan
imously carried that it. be transferred
immediately to the Senate for action.
The bill'was called up at eleven
o'clock Monday morning and in ten I
minutes the vote was taken, which re- I
suited in its pa-sage by a vote of loi
to nothing. Not a word was offered
against it. thus showing the great pop
ularity of our proposition.

eveJ, as it now goes to the Senate, j
From that body we have nothing to j
fear. They are anxious to get through ,
with the new county legislation and it |
is the general opinion that they will
accept the report of the two commit- •
tees as presented and passed by the
House.,
Vidalia sent fifty or sixty delegates
last Sunday night to try and have the)
lines changed, but they made a failure, !
and we believe they are now satisfied ,
to accept Toombs county with Lyons ,
as the county site.
Now that the fiht is over, we want to |
insist on the great barbecue and love
feast. We want to see all the citizens
of the new county united and we will
then have cne of the richest and best
counties in the state of Georgia. We
do not censure our Vidalia friends for
I the part they took in trying to get a
, court house, but we do want to see
, them take their defeat like true men
should, and they can then join us in
the noble work of building up the
, county and making it a bright spot on
the map of our grand old state.

The Progress editor has decided to
add a real estate exchange to his busi-
S ness and he would be pleased to have
all land owners list with him what
; property they have for sale. We fre-
I quently reeieve inquires regarding prop
erty. and we are situated so that can we
advertise lands and make sales quickly.
There is no charge unless sales are
1 made and we would like to present as
; large a list as possible in the next issue
v of the Progress.
I
We are now certain that there will
be no wrangle over the location of the
court house. All of our people seem to
want harmony and they are going to
settle the location business on the first
I go round. That is the way it should be
