Mr. J. C. Durham went to dele Monday. Mr. Egbert Jones visited Tift on relatives this week. Dr. Goodman, of Tifton, was in the city Wednesday. Mrs. P. 0. Everett returned .home Monday from Vienna. Mr. W. A. Murray made a bus¬ iness trip to Tifton Wednesday. Several young people enjoyed a trip on the tram Monday after¬ noon. The town has been flooded with insurance agents during the past week, but they’re a clover lot. Miss Mark Beecher lias been the popular guest of her friend, Miss Maud Domer, at Worth this week. Mr. Carlos \V. Evans is on a tour of South Georgia in the in¬ terest of the Georgia Sawmill As¬ sociation, Mr. and Mrs. Wilber M. Smith, of Sycamore, attended Professor Lane’s lecture at Worth Thursday evening. And now they say Henry Bo¬ hannon is the champion “canom- ist” and that Andy Forester is the champion “canyist.” Mr. C. R. Bridgers and Rev. J. 0. Flanders rode the goat to a fin¬ ish Monday night and are now full-fledged Odd Fellows. The Epworth League meets at the hospitable home of Mr. L. 0. Futch this evening, and a pleasant time may be expected by those who attend. An entertainment was given at the home of Capt. C. T. Hill Thursday evening, and was much enjoyed by quite a number of young people. We have received iustruclioi s to forward the Advance to Dr. W. J. Turner, 234 East 18th St., N. Y. The Doctor reports a fine voy¬ age and pleasant weather. Those who attended the lecture at Worth Thursday evening were: Mr. a; d Mrs. J. L. Evans, Misses Aurena Evans, Rosa Link, Aland Muller, Mattie Byrd Watson and Johnu :) Bohannon. Messrs. G. S. Evans, J. R. Burgess, G. T. Betts, C. T. Bohannon and Mr. Snow- Before Judge Bass On Thursday morning, was ar¬ raigned one Fletcher Taylor, on the charge of theft. It seems as though Flecher had gotton into a strait, and needed some of the necessaries of life (folks will get that way sometimes) and being unable to lay his hand on the filthy lucre wherewith to satisfy his wants, and being opposed to work, the thought struck him that Mr. Durham being a miller, won Id most likely have more corn on hand than was needed for home consumption, and that aoout the easiest way to satisfy his needs would be to appropriate some of the aforesaid corn, and so poor Fletcher did—to las sorrow. He tried to establish his innocence, but evidence conclusive was against him, as he traded the corn for merchandise in Mr. Murry’s store. In lieu of bail Judge Bass sent him over to the capital, that he might have ample time for medi¬ tation and reflection, and at the U nroner 1 time to appear before the Judge of _ the Superior Court, , and to him give an account of himself. Mayor’s Court. But for the single exception of Tom Hamilton there would have been no call for convening Mayor Betts’ court on Thursday morning last. However, it had to be done in order that justice might be meted out to the aforesaid Tom¬ my, who, contrary to the laws of the State of Georgia and of the town of Ashburn, took it upon himself to do the-Comnian- chee Indian act, and less paint and feathers, strode his charger and proceeded to charge through the principle thoroughfares of our usually quiet little city, to the horror and dismay of those of our citizens who happened to witness his accrobatic perform¬ ances on horseback. It was thought that Tom was drinking, but he said no—that lie was just having a little fun— and as the evidence was not suf¬ ficient to convict him on that charge, our good Mayor kindly intimated to him that had he bean drunk it would have been different, but that when a sober man wanted to have that kind ol fun he would have to pay for it in the town of Ashburn. So Tommy will have to turn over to the pro¬ per authorities the sum of $7.7)0, or do ten days time for Marshall Hallman. Entertainments. At the hospitable home of Mr. J. S. Belts, on Wednesday even¬ ing last, were entertained the Sunday school classes of Messrs. J. S. and R. L. Betts. The affair was an unusually enjoyable one, as is always the case when Mr. B. takes a hand. The evening was passed in social chat., the playing of innocent games, etc., and as is most always the case some of the young folks most likely told some of the other young folks that they were the only pebble on the beach, or words to that' effect, while on their journey home. Those in attendanoe were: Misses Maud Miller, Johnnie Bohannon, Eula Fiver,Nora Lawrence, Eva Burke, Clara Powell, Bessie Roberts, Lois Cox, Mollie Cook, Mary Clark, and Messrs, S. A. Clark, Walter Wliidby, H. Fateh, B. O. Cantey, P. W. Bolden, Henry Green, Clarence Woodard, 0. T. Hadaway, J. F. Culpepper, R. L. Betts,.Claud Bailey. AT THE HOME OF MR. F. E. HUDSON, On Monday evening last, was given by our good friend, Mr. John IP. Allen, an entertain¬ ment m honor of his Sunday school class, and the very fact that John II. was in charge, as¬ sisted by such entertainers as Fiyn Hudson and estimable wife, suffices that it was a success, as is attested to by all those who were so fortunate as to be present. Mr. Allen is truely a working Christian, and his heart is in his church and his Sabbath school. These innocent entertainments tend greatly to advance the Sun¬ day school work, and are becom¬ ing more popular as the years roll by. The fortunate ones were: Misses Miinla Hardin, Ola Smith, Lois Cox, Clara Powell, Hattie Hodge, Dodo Fowler, Mollie Cook. Messrs. R. 0. Smith, Walter Whid- b.y, Julius Patterson, Mr. Davis, H. Futch, C. T. Hadaway, J. F. Culpepper, B. 0. Cantey, P. W. Bolden, Clarence Woodard. Devotional League Program. For Sunday, February 18th, at Methodist Church 10 a. rn. Culperper conducted the opening exorcises of the school Tuesday morning. Mr.tHarry Jacksog, of Syca¬ more, has been absent from school part of this week on account illness. Now golden rule: You will have to recite if you come to our school. Friday morning the school was honored with a visit, from Prof. Prentiss, of Cordele. The visit from Prof. Gibson to the school Monday morning proved to be not only pleasant but improving to the pupils, as he gave us a good talk on education Tne latest tragedy at school was the attempted suicide of a pig, who, led into forbidden paths by a curiosity to explore unknown regions, found his way to the Auditorium, possibly to en¬ joy strains of melody issuing from the music room. His joy, however, was turned to grief when the lesson was finished and the pupil begun to chase him around the room. In despera¬ tion, he sprang into a window and started to" dash out., but de¬ ciding that life was too sweet to be ended so abruptly, and started a slow but sure descent, of tlie stairway. Notwithstanding the rain last Friday afternoon, Misses Watson, Bohannon and Evans visited the school, to hear the recitations. They were too late however as the last speaker had left the stag just before they entered, We were very sorry and hope they will come again in time to bear the exercises. Sycamore Siftings. Mr. Clark McMurrain was ried to Miss Aimer Belle last Sunday afternoon, Rev. Shiran officiating. Clark is prosperous young farmer and his bride is the charming daughter Mr. Ben Bossy, of this place. We wish the young couple long and happy life. Mrs. J. II. Henderson, of place, is quite ill. We wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. Levin Johns, of Tifton, was in town Sunday. We can all guess liia business. Miss Bobbie Sims, ol Leslie, who has been visiting her sister Mrs. G. W. Henderson, returned home Wednesday. Quite a number of our young people attended an entertainment at the hospitable home ol Mr. Jim Whiddon Tuesday night and re¬ port a very enjoyable time. W r e are glad to welcome Miss Pearl Gamble home again, after a long visit, to friends and rela¬ tives in A rain and Gordele.
