Georgia or any State enjoys a
perfect administration of
laws. Chancellor Kent
about the of pardon, &c.,
say* that ‘‘a power to pardon
seem- indeed indispensable un¬
der the most correct administra¬
tion of the law by human tribu¬
nals; since, otherwise, men
would sometimes fall a prey to
tho vindictiveness of accusers,
the inaccuracy of testimony, and
the fallibility of jurors and
courts. « f The prison commission
should investigate Mr. Bridges’
case, and ascertain whether or
not in hi* case justice is wearing
a sanguinary and cruel counte¬
nance because of the court* hav¬
ing partaken too much of severity
and of its failure of access to ex¬
ception* in favor of unfortunate
guilt.
Mr. Bridges should not be con¬
fined in a convict camp. No one
w ho is copable of judging can
consistently, in our opinion, ap¬
prove of hie present confinement.
I.et the prison commission re¬
member, there are wrongs that
they may righten; there are loads
that they may lighten, if they
will help just a little.

In Anierica during many years

exchange.
The tendency is more and more
marked all the time, so much so
that the man who lias not found
a comfortable place for himself by
the time he is forty-five is likely
to come to want.
In looking for a position after
, hnt fl ge his chances would bebet-
by shaving off his beard, dy¬

and cultivating vivacity and phy¬

It is not that the old men are
less wise—they are
that they are lacking in the euer-

—this age of young men.
