In entering the field of journalism
w6 realize, at least to some extent, its
arduous duties and onerous responsi-
bilities, but having decided upon our
course we proceed to the work before
us, proposing to meet its inexorable
deffinds with the best energies of
our manhood.
To our readers we wave a cordial
salute and give the assurance that it
our best efforts can avail we will give
them such a paperas they will appre-

spired to make our stay in Thomas-
ton pleasant, wits this old landmark

The bill providing for the relief of
Confederate soldiers who are citizens
of Georgia contains the following
wholesome provisions:
For a leg extending above the knee
$100;for n leg below the knee, $75;
for an arm extending above the el-|
bow, $60; for an arm below the el-
bow, $10. Any Confederate soldier,
who is now a citizen of this State, is
entitled to the benefit. Applications
should be made to the Governor, with
satisfactory proof of the loss of the 1
• limb, and he is authorized to draw|
his warrant for the amount. The
money may be paid at once. The ap-
plicant will not receive the amount
allowed under this act oftener than|
once in five years.
A Washington special says: Advic-
es from Mississippi indicate much in-
terest in the approaching contest for
a senator to succeed Bruce, whose
term of office expires in March, 1881.
