Athena and that city. Wo have not yet

that will ba governed by the amount of

raising the required $15,000, and asked
if Athena oould gat np to $75,000. He
held a business meeting last evening with
hia directors here, bnt nothing of im
portance was transacted.
We next called on Col. Frobel and En-
[ineer Robarta, whom we found iit room
in Athens that Miss Harden's eststvwill
be worth about seven thousand dollars.
There is not as much property outside of
tho Hsncock avenuo place as was at
first supposed.
It is understood that Judge Hutchins
will he here during the latter part of the
week to look into the wills. After one
ortho other to acoepted it will then be
decided whether the other parties will
file a caveat and contest.;;. It is not be
lieved at present that there will be a con
test It will probably rest-with the
friends and trustees of Emanuel church
to aay what will be done.
It was understood among some of the
friends of that chnrob that tho deceased

directions about the property and con
firming her expressed desire that the

death. There was nothing to load them
to suspect that a second will was in exis

they understood Mias Harden to emphat
ically contradict, only a few woeks ago.
Or course tho production of a second
ill, duly signed and attested, would
outweigh oven iiioh verbal expressions
of Miss Harden, and there would be but
one thing to do—to set up the last will
and accept it in solemn form.- The will
in Judge Jackson’s possession has not
yet been made public, but will be at the
right time. No one who knows Judge
Jackson doubts that this last instrument
is in regular and legal form. A man of
his probity and experience would not

Mrs. Jackson was known to be a favorite
of Misa Harden’s, and Miss Effie Jack
and were trying to get a nap, but r#*di
granted us an interview.
Col. Frobel says this is hn first visit to
Athens, and he was anxious to ride over
tho city and see it, e» he had heard a
great deal about the place. He loaves

delighted witb the county between Ath

bright future. He tells us that the train
wan booked toroll into Monticello yes
terday. Messrs. Powell St Davenport
had computed their contract and in a
few days would bo ready to move. In
fact, be expeoted in in few week’s time
to have hia entire force at work grading
this aids of the Georgia road, and would
then hasten the work as fast as possib.e.
He hope! to hive the oara running into
Athena by next fall, but our people must
be patient. Th-y had enough iron now
on the road tQ lay the track within ton
mites of Madison, and it would ho put
down a* fait *e practicable. Col. Frobel

fortune. *
Thus the matter stands. Both paities
to the matter are of high and undoubted
standing, anxious to do only what is
riaht. And yot the mystery of tho two
ills remains and the lips which did not
offer a solution in life are now sealed by
a deeper mystery which will not be
broken.
The legal steps seem to be very aim-
pie. The reaaen for the two wifla will
probably remain put finding out.

Mr. George H. McRee, an honorable
eitixen of thia "county, ' wu returning
from Athens Saturday evening in a two-
horse wagon, when the mules took fright,
ran away, threw him from tho wagon
and broke his left leg juit above the
ankle. We learn that the bone punched
through the flesh, making a very bad
place.
Mra. Belle Johnston will leave noxt
Saturday for Savannah. She will make
that her home, u her husband hu se
cured a very lucrative position in that
place.
The big picnic came off at Barnett's
bridge, Saturday, and every one seemed
to enjoy themselves splendidly. The

cellent, and the like of so many large, fat

seemed to enjoy the baby show as much
as they did the dinner. Following is a
