An agent of the mail service was in the city this week and went over the lino to Darien. After making a close inspection of the whole matter and getting all the data he could, he wrote a strong letter to the Depart ment urging the importance of a mail route from Brunswick to Darien, via Doboy. Darien now gets her not th orn mail of one day about ten o’clock the day following. By establishing this route the steamer could leave here daily on arrival of the northern mail at noon and place same in Da rien by six o’clock p. m., just sixteen hours sooner than sho now gets it, and returning make the trip in time to connect with the E. T. V. 10:50 train every morning. If the citizens of Darien will get up a petition to Mr.Norwoodencouraging the scheme, There is no reason why it could not be worked up. Northerners Coming—Their Impressions. Every train over the E..T. V. & G. brings passengers for Florida—28 yesterday and 36 to day. To travel in company with these one gets an idea from their remarks—one to an other, of their impressions. Yester day morning we were on one of these trains and listened witii interest from No. 2 to the first crossing. Such remarks as these fell from their lips: “This soil must be very poor”—“Won der how the pcoplo live?” “Every thing so dead—no new houses—no fresh paint.” At Sterling Station one old Indy caught sight of a tur pentine still, and asked her good man whnt it was. Adjusting his specs on his nose he surveyed the promises and informed his good wife tii at it was a sugar furnace. But when the train began to get into the city, and the new houses began to loom up on ev ery hand, and the grand old oaks wet with dew to wave in the fresh morning air, a sudden change came over the party and their delight knew no bounds. “Oh, isn’t that splendid,” said one.” “A perfect lit tle panuMse,’’ said another. Yc edi tor couiiTOtand it no longer, so said to the coufile nearest him him: “Yes, friends, von have now reached, the garden spot of earth—Brunswick, tho city by the sea. Stop over with us ladies and gentlemen, and spend a week at the Oglethorpe, and our word for it, you will go no nearer the land of flowers. They all promised to stop on their way back. A Rusy Scene.' Tho Bay presented a lively scene this morning. The steamer City of Brunswick with her , list of todrists for Fernandina; the #fcssic with a good list of passengers and a heavy freight .for Darien; the steamship Lake Ncpigon with her cargo of cot ton for Liverpool; tho Tar Heel, with her freight for Abbeville; thoEgmont with her passenger list and freight for St. Simons were all steamed up and trying their wheels in the water like prancing ponies all- ready to start on their journeys. Besides these Bay looomed up with steam tugs innumerable, each ready to fulfill his mission for the day. The whole scene was a lively one indeed, and one that brought joy to the heart of the writer, who has worked hard all these years to bring about Just this state of things. We felt a degree of pride swelling in our bosom as we looked upon the realization of our : long cherished holies. Exports. C. This is gooil .advice, but it will never betaken until our pop ulation becomes dense enough, to de mand it. There is little intensive forming in a thinly settled country. Farming rarely pays much, except .where population is dense. All this means, let us try to secure iimni,ra tion to Georgia. . Misses E. & C. Janes’ Seminary- C-u-tlYtoert, Ga.
