. * A Strange Coincidence.
In Camden county, Ga., there has
lived for many long years two promi
nent citizens—warm friends. They
have been together a great deal in
life, both in business transactions
and social life. A short since, they
were both taken sick, and last Mon
day night, precisely at nine o’clock,
both “passed over the river” and are
together still in the great beyond.
They were Mr. Newton and Mr.
Archie Seals—aged respectively 55
and G5 years of age.
The Savannah News says the
young lady who was very recently
married to Hawes, the suspected Bir
mingham murderer, has been inter
viewed by a New York newspaper.
The interview was short, but it was
to the point. The young lady said
that if Hawes is guilty, no fate can
be too harsh for him, and that, after
the cruel manner in which he has
deceived her, she cannot believe his
protestations of innocence. Proba
bly Hawes is a bad man, but he is
.entitled to a fair trial.
