LAST NIGHT AT THE TENT.
A Synopsis of the Eloquent Ser
mon Rendered.
A Urge congrcgation attendcd the
service at the gospel tent Inst niglit
in spite of the inclemency of the
•weather, and the meeting was one of
power and gracious influence.
After the usual prayer and song
service, Mr. Williams announced for
bis text, St. John 3:14-16—reading
in connection therewith a lesson from
the 21st chapter of Numbers, con
taining the account of the plague of
fiery serpents which the Lord sent
upon the Israelites for their murmur-
ings and disobedience. In earnest
and eloquent language the preacher
discussed the plan of salvation—
showing its simplicity, its compre
hensiveness, including in its provi
sions every human soul, and the paina
God bad taken to make it plain to
even the dullest mind. It was shown
that God had prepared the brazen
serpent fo? tho healing of the Israel
ites with the design of giving them
a typo of the Christ who Bhould heal
the disease of sin ; and that the act
by which a soul accepted Christ and
was saved from sin was just as
Bimple and euay as was the looking
upon the uplifted serpent by those
who hud been bitten.
The sermon was forcible and itti
pressive, and during the after-service
many decided for Christ.
Mr. Williams, in concluding the
service, announced that to day would
be set apart for prayer and fasting
with special services at the tent.
The meeting to-night will lie one
of unusual interest, and all are in
vltcd to attend.

Maj. Campbell Wallace, the vener
able chairman of the Georgia rail
road commission, wns bitten by a
spider a few days ago, and for a
while sutfered so severely that his
family wore alarmed. He rallied,
however, and is now past danger.
This will be gratifying news to tho
people of the State who regard Maj.
Wallace not only ns nn honored fel
low citizen, but us one of the most
valuable public servants. As the
chairman of the railroad commission
he has done noble service (or.
Georgia, und though his years are
many, ho in yet vigorous in mind and
body. Long may he live.

tives to this meeting.
