FROM BARTOW GO TO CAMP MONDAY (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1.) yourself to the local board, composed of your neighbors, for the purpose of determining the place and time in which you can best serve the United States in the present emergency, you are hereby notified that you have now been selected for immediate military service. You will, therefore, report to the local board named below at Car tersville, Ga., at 7:10 a. m. on the 25th day of February 1918, for military duty. From and after the day and hour just named you will be a soldier in the military service of the United States.” Failure to report promptly at the hour ana on the day named * a grave military offense, for which the select men may be court-martialed, says a notice accompanying the above order. Willful failure to report with an in tent to evade military service con stitutes desertion from the army of the United States, which in time of war is a capital crime. The selectmen are cautioned that they will not need, and should not bring anything, except baud baggage. They will not be permitted to take trunks or boxes on the train. It is suggested, however, that each man provide himself with the following articles: A pair of strong comfortable shoes to relieve the feet from the new regulation marching shoes; not to exceed four extra suits of under clothing: not to exceed six extra pairs of sox; four face and two bytli tow els; a comb; a brush; a tooth brush; soap; tooth powder; razor and shav ing soap. A man going into the army is also told that it will add to his comfort if he will bring a woolen blanket. They are also given the suggestion to wear only rough clothing and a flann el shirt, as their civil clothing must be sent back and they may get lost in transit. The local board has received special instructions relative to phy sical examination. To clear d'- doubt as to the rules to be employed as to physical examinations under chang ing regulations, it is announced that physical examinations which had been made under the old regulation need not be repeated upon rceipt of the new rules for examining registrants. The board is also receiving instruc tions to the effect that when the vote of the local board is unanimous on the qualification, a case need not be sent before a medical advisory board, unless the local board so elects. It is also understood that plans are now made to call out selectmen ns fast as those now, at cantonments complete their training and tha' movements will be made as rapidly* a* possible. Movements of ’mm to complete the first select service call, beginning on February 23, will not be completed; within the following five days a planned, but will extend over int > March. A movement not included in pre vious announcements will begin on March 4, moving 10,077 men to Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., and Camp Funston, Kansas. The following increments of white men will go to Fort Oglethorpe: Dela ware, 281; New Jersey, 940; Michigan, 1,500; Ohio, 1,500; West Virginia, 1,520; making a total of 5,741. The following states by' the calls issued today will have on March 4, sent to camp all the remaining white men in their respective quotas: Delaware, New Jersey, Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, New r Mexico and South flakota. Provost Marshal General Crowder today notified governors that slassifi cation of selected men virtually has been completed and that in the future local boards’ duties will consist only of supervision of the drawing of units from their respective committees and reclassification of men undergoing change of status. Notice To Taxpayers - At a meeting of the County Board held on 14th of February it was ordered that warning be given of the importance of giving in your property subject to taxation. The law requires you to do this. The tax receiver has advertised dates he will be at each precinct in the County. A negro insurance agent named Sims was nabbed Saturday by the Car.tersville police and at a hearing Monday plead guilty and was fined ten dollars, ft seems that Sims was L-oing about the negro quarters solicit ing, and, as lie-had not obtained the necessary license, he was violating the city ordinance.
