Meat Must Be Sold Fresh meat is perishable. It must be soldi within about two w eeks for whatever it will bring. A certain amount of beef is frozen for foreign shipment, but domestic markets demand fresl% chilled, unfrozen beet Swift & Company can not increase prices by withholding meat, be cause it will not keep fresh and salable for more than a few days after it reaches the market. Swift & Company cannot tell at the time of purchasing cattle, what price fresh meat will bring when put on sale. If between purchase and sale, market con ditions change, the price of meat must also change. The Food Administration limits our profit to 9 per cent on capital invested in the meat departments. This is about 2 cents per dollar of sales. No profit is guaranteed, and the risk of loss is not eliminated. Crops are looking line. The singing here Sunday afternoon was well attended and we had sore tine singing. Remeber there will be an all day singing here at Big Pond, known as Henderson School House, next sun day, July 14th. VV especially in \ ite all good singers. Everybody in vited to come and bring well-filled baskets. Several from here attended the singing at Cartersville Sunday. Mrs. R. E. Grogan is improving af ter a long illness. Her friends are glad to see her up again. The fish fry was enjoyed by a large crowd at the home of W. J. Gar rison's last Thursday, the 4th. To perpetuate the memory of these men who have made the sacrifice their pictures are to be preserved in the various training stations of the coun try, Secretary Daniels 'requested that these photographs be sent to the Department by the next ot bin. Relatives of men who have been lost in the present war who have not received requests for pictures are asked to mail them to the De for this memorial. T. W. McHugh Lost Store and Warehouse Fire completely destroyed the store house and warehouse of Mr. T. W. McHugh at Rydal early Wednesday morning, July 3rd. Mr. McHugh was in Atlanta on business at the time and only Mrs. .McHugh and children were at home. The fire was not dis covered until it had gained consider ; i .e headway and before assistance arrived flames had gained such a headway that nothing could be done to stop them. Mr. McHugh estimates iiis loss at not less than $7,000.00, with an insur ance of possibly $1,500.00. There w T as evidence of incendiarism and the pre liminary investigation led to the be lief that the lire resulted from the blowing up of Mr. McHugh’s sate, a.-- the lock had evidence of having been tampered with.
