Mr. Herschell Tidwell and sister. Miss Susie, of Adalrsville, were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Simpson, of this place. Miss Bessie Culver, of this place, and Mr. Bill Knight, of Cartersville. were happily married last Wednesday at the home of Rev. W. T. Shelton, at White, Ga. Rev. Shelton officiated. The couple were attended by the bride’s sister. Miss Lillie Mae Culver and Mrs. Bob Smith and Miss Daisy Smith. We wish them a long life of happiness. ♦ Mr. C. T. Culver and daughter, Miss Flora, of this place, were called to the bedside of the former's father-in-law, Mr. Campbell, of South Carolina, who is seriously ill. Private Winford Picklesimer. of Camp Gordon, attended the Xmas tree given by Misses Louise Donahoo and Dorothy Olny last Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Kimsey Massey, of this place were visiting the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hines, of Stamp Creek, last Friday night. Mr. Otto Guyton and family, of this place, have moved near Cartersville. We wish them much success in their new home. Mr. and Mrs. Will Tracy and little children, of Cartersville. were guests of Mr. Charlie Simpson, of this place, one day last week. IN 1918 NUMBERED 62; EIGHTEEN IN GEORGIA Tuskeegee Institute, Ala.—According to the records compiled by Monroe N. Work, in charge of records and re search of the Tuskegee institute, there were 62 lynehings in 1918. This was 24 more than the number—3 B—for the year 1917. Of those lynched. 58 were negroes and 4 were whites. Five of those put to death were women. Six teen, or a little more than one-fourth of those put to death, were charged with asault or attempted assault. The offenses charged against the whites lynched were: Murder. 2; be ing disloyal, 2. The offenses charged against the ne groes were: Alleged complicity in mur der, 14; murtje*. 7; charged with threat to kill, 6; charged with assault, 10: charged with attempted asault, 6; al leged participation in fight about al leged hog stealing. 3; killing officer o’ the law, 2; immorality, 1: assisting man charged with murder to escape. 1: robbing house and frightening wo men, 1; killing man in dispute about automobile repairs, 1; killing landlord in a dispute gver farm contract. 1; as sault, with intent to murder, 1; wound ing another, 1; robbery and resisting arrest, 1. Baa St. ROCKMART MERCHANT IS REINSTATED BY ORDER Announcement was made Monday by the Atlanta headquarters of the fed eral food administration for Georgia, that the "unfair' order issued some time ago against Duve W. Nichols, of Rock mart, aG., had been removed. This order was issued as the result of charg es of dealing contrary to the food ad ministration rules and wholesalers wer e forbidden to furnish Nichols with goods. The entire staff of inspectors took he road again Monday morning to cov er the state and make daily reports to the executive offices as to the man ner in which dealers in Georgia are ob serving the food administration regu lations.
