I*>£6 was declared, he entered the service Immediately, and spent over two years in Uncle Sam's uniform With the fam ous Rainbow Division, he was among the first to arrive In France, reaching there in October, 1917 Mr Roberts saw service on various front, and was wounded three times, once in the I.orralne sector, and twice during the historic drive on Chateau- Thiery. In the latter contest, his wounds were so severe that he was forced to stay in a hospital seven months. His recovery is now complete, however Dr. Roberts will receive a very cor dial welcome to Cartersville. and It is hoped he will make his residence per manent. Union Service at First Baptist Church Mrs. Lem Gilreath, a former resi dent of Cartersville, but who is now organizer and speaker for the National Woman's Christian Temperance Union, will speak at a union service at the First Baptist church Sunday evening at 7:30 o'clock. Mrs. Lem Gilreath will speak on the Victory Week, which closes Sunday night and is to celebrate national con stitutional prohibition, which is the eighteenth amendment to the federal constitution of the United States, and which became a law and went into j effect January 16, 1920. Mrs. Gilreath is a speaker of rare | ability and everybody is inVited Sunday I evening to hear her. There will be a splendid musical pro gram given by the choirs of the Car tersville churches, Mrs. Cunyus singing "John Barleycorn. Goodbye,’ and “A Saloonless Nation in 1920,” a song which was written in 1911 and adopted by the World's Christian Endeavor. Paul C. Reppard Opens New Battery Station in City Mr. Paul C. Reppard arrived in Car .tersville this week from Savannah, and announced that he had perfected plans for opening a battery service station, as well as a Ford repair shop in Car tersville. Mr. Reppard will feature the Exide battery, and give attention exclusively to the repair of Ford cars. He is a man with years of experience, and comes highly recommended.
