The diminishing power of the dollar has few terrors for the janitors of the big buildings, who usually occupy lux urious seven and eight-room suites in the structures where they preside over the army of scrub women, elevator men and others. Tom Smith, head janitor of the Stock Exchange building, is generally admit ted to draw at least $25,000 a year, in addition to free rental of a seven-room suite. George Tyberg, janitor of the New York Porduce Exchange building, is believed to fare almost as well as Smith. Tenants of the building say that the suite his family occupies in the building would bring from $5,0000 to SIO,OOO a year if rented. John Shay, janitor of the Equitable building, was crowded out of his suite there. Consequently, his family resides in their own home in Brooklyn, and the head of the family rides to his building in his automobile every morning. Tom Clearly, whom Shay succeeded, left $250,000 at his death, a large por tion of which was saved from the sal ary he received as janitor. * Think how you'd fell if they ran you out of town!
