A lovely complir ent to a group of charming visitors was the informal re ception at -which Mrs. A. B. Cunyus entertained at "Fairview” on Friday afternoon in honor of her sisters. Mrs. John H. Simpson, of Charlotte, N. C.; Mrs. Burt Sims, of Lexington, Ky.; Miss Helen Jones, of Spartanburg, S. C., and her mother. Mrs. Barsle Jones, of Spartanburg. The rooms where th e guests assem bled wer e decorated with quantities jf brightly-colored flowers, including 2.0- nias, marigolds and cosmos. From a prettily decorated table on the porch, punch" was served by Misses Clara Howard, Louisa Howard and Stella Brown. Mrs. Cunyus- received her guests wearing a handsome gown of black lace. Mrs. Sims and Mrs. Simpson also wore gowns of black iace, and Mrs Jones wore black georgette. Miss Helen Jones wore a becoming frock of white metal cloth. Mrs Cunyus was assisted in enter taining by Mrs. John W. Jones, Mrs Walter Holcomb, Mrs. Sam Jones, Mrs. Tom Lumpkin, Mrs. Ed Strickland, Jr., of Rome; Mrs. J. W. An Afternoon Party. On Thursday afternoon of last week Miss Ruth Auchmutey was hostess to fourteen girls The rooms where the guests assembled were decorated with many brightly colored blossoms in cluding cannas, daisies and marigolds. Assisting in entertaining were Mrs. Bob Auchmutey and Miss Betty Auch mutey. A delicious ice course was served. An enjoyable affair of last Thursday was the spend-the-day party at which Mrs. Paul Jones entertalnd a group of Cartersville friends at her beautiful sew home in Canton. C., is at home for a short stay with his parents, Mr and Mrs. Paul Gilreath, before going to Philadelphia, where he will remain for some weeks, learning certain de tails about the making of leather belts. He holds a responsible position with the McLeod Leather Belting Company, at Greensboro, and an early promotion is assured him, since he has already mastered many details of this business He wa s always one of the most pop ular young men in Cartersville, and naturally is receiving a very cordial welcome during his short stoy. Sunday evening Bishop Candler greeted a capacity audience and preached a remarkable sermon on the theme, "The Kingdom of Heaven,” hlo text being taken from Matt 13:44-44. Monday Dr. Belk liad charge of the three services, at 41 a. m., 3 p. m. and ■7:30 p. m. His texts were Bt. John 15:14 at 11 a. m. At 3 p. m.. Psalms 100, 2d verse. This service was espe cially for the young people, although a large audience of children and adults greeted him. At 7:30 he took as his text 1 Cor. 2:2. On Tuesday at 11 a. m.. Bishop Can dler t> k a his text "The Kingdom of God Dr. Belk preached to a large audi ence in the afternoon from Act„ 20:35, and again in the evening at 7:30 from Amos 4*12. His themes were "How to Prepare, When to prepare, and Why Prepare to Meet God.” Bishop Candler preached Wednesday morning from the 23rd chapter of St. Matthew.
