As the town grew, so these stores tried to keep a pace or two ahead of the demands of the people, always buying in advance and keeping in stock the things they thought the people would want. In proportion to their wealth they have perhaps been taxed more heavily than others, and have paid all sorts of licenses for doing business merely that they might serve you. These taxes and licenses have gone a long way toward maintaining our schools and city prop erties. The stores here today will be bigger and better stores just in proportion to the amount of business you do with them, and just to whatever extent you decide that you had rather build up your town than some other one.
