Hon Clifford Walker, of .Monroe, has announced his intention to make the race for Attorney General of Georgia. Mr. Walker should receive the cordial support of Hartow county. This office is a high and important one and Mr. Walker is in every way quali fied. Realizing that he is true to every ethical instinct, through an inheri tance of lofty ideals from progenitors who have been a race of lawyers, hi. ■ countrymen have placed him in responsible positions calling for an acute and accurate knowledge of Law, where he succeeded with satisfaction to his people and with credit to himself. At the same time he has honorably con ducted a private practice to which he has given intelligent application arc, satisfactory service. He is personally known to many of our people and has relatives her a who are among the county’s most, highly esteemed and popular citizen:-’ These will lend him every honorable effort and The Tribune earnestly hope to see him succeed. Mr. Walker’s abilities have been recognized in various capacities. Hr has been a member of the state democratic executive committee, once grand rhanr.elloi of the Knights of Pythias a prominent member and counsellor in the Baptist church, a member of the board of trustees of both Mercer Uni versity and Shorter College and for four years solicitor general of his ci cuit, voluntarily declining re-election. Thus, in many ways, Mr. Walker has been shown the confidence of men and in all he has been a faithful and diligent servant. THE COUNTY FAIR. The Bartow Tribune earnestly hopes to see the county fair of this yea•• excel in brilliancy and benefit the fair of last year. it can easily be done if all the various interests of the county co-operate for the pulling off of this great Bartow county enterprise. It is particularly to be desired that the farmers of the county put their shoulders to the wheel. Much of good cannot be done in any thing in this county unless we secure the earnest and enthusiastic support of these pro ducers of our wealth. The fair is primarily for the benefit of the agricultui f* interests of the county and failing to accomplish much in this line it is fail ing in its principal design. The premium list, is published in this issue of this paper. Study it and make up your mind to enlist in the cause of making an exhibit second to none in Georgia We should have a parade this year on the iirst day. Every vehicle and automobile in the county should join in this display and decorate their ma chines, buggies, carts and carriages with flowers. The school children should be enlisted and all other organizations of a public or semi-public nature should join in and make this a permanent institution. In a few years people will be coming for many miles to witness the events of our county fair. The little town of Oberammergau, a mere village in Europe, presents ‘‘The Passion Play” whose actors are mere peasants of that vicinity, and draws to the woods where this scene is played, travelers from all over the world, the tourists from America traveling by water and rail many thousands of miles to witness this performance. Passedena, in California, has its tournament of roses on the first day of January of each year and to this place annually come thousands, scores of thousands, to see a flower parade Each year the number grows larger. It has become an event for which peo THE BARTOW TRIBUNE, MARCH 19, 1914. pie plan to attend. It was started years ago when Passedena was not lrg than Cartersville. Let Cartersville aim high with its events. It can be done as successfully here as anywhere In the world for we have the brains and intelligence, the country and surroundings, the lavishness of nature and a richly endowed cit izenship. What is lacking? Only a purpose to succeed. REGISTER NOW. All who have not registered this year need to know that by doing so now they will not have to register again and hence a little effort now will save the necessity for ever having to do so again and afford them, also, the opportunity of exercising the right of franchise during a year when them are many offices to fill and much of importance to he transacted by the officers who are elected. The mere fact that you have paid your taxes does not automatically reg ister the tax payer. He must, in order to qualify for registration this year personally and physically present himself to the proper officers and formally comply with the requirements of the law. The registration closes April 6th. If you have not registered by tha date you will lose your right to vote- this year. All county officers are to be elected, except the ordinary. Representatives to the legislature from this county are to be elected. A congressman is to be chosen. A governor’s election will be held. Two United States senators are to be voted for by the people of the state. It is probable that other matters of great importance to the people and tax payers will be submitted and every citizen should qualify in order to have his will expressed and his vote recorded on men and measures of great interest to the people. A comparatively small number have complied with the law and if all the voters do not record their names as qualified voters the people of this county will be ruled and governed by a minority. It is a man’s duty to vote. He should in every election exercise and use his right of suffrage. The registration commissioners have appointed deputies in every dis trict in the county and it will be but slight trouble to find them and per manently record your name and thereby be able to vote always hereafter without further preliminary formality.
