He belongs to n Sixth avenue furrier,
lie Is not a live bear. Kven the mem

vated road goeth not back to the time
of that bear’s demise; yet, 111 spite of
Ids long period as a “dead one,” he Is
the sleekest, best groomed bear lu New
York. That is because the furrier
takes such good care of him.
Storms are never allowed to beut

humored to the extent of being brought
Indoors during a downpour, because It

The Fate of Fltea.
Some light on the fate of flies was
thrown by H. Hill lu a lecture at the
ltoyul Vlctorlu hall, London, on "Files
and How They Disappear." In Eug-
land alone there aro 3,000 different
kinds of flies, and Mr. II111 mentioned
the following principal ways In which
flies perish: They are drowned In uiilk
at the breakfast table; they get sur-
rounded by a white fungus, which saps
thoir strength; they are eaten by spi
ders, wasps, frogs, chameleons, lizards,
field mice or flsh.
WlUi so many enemies it might be
wondered bow flies have continued to
exist, but Mr. Hill said tbat he had
himself witnessed a daddy longlegs
whose front half was being devoured
by a spider continuing calmly to lay
eggs with tho other half, as though
uotblug were happening.

Why Uaa Wear Mntaekn,
The Oaulols of ParU has been Inves
tigating that grave question, “Why do
men wear mustaches?” About 100
men answered the question. Six re

without It, gave him a bad appearance,
and three that It avoided colds. Three
others maintained that It Improved the

sixty gave the reason that women do
