During the severe wind and rain
storm Tuesday noon half of the
cornice was blown off the top of
the Sal hide building, occupied by
Orr A Powell, carrying some 500
brick from the turret wall and
crashing into the pavement be
low. The stone slabs where the
immense weight struck were crush
ed into many pieces. Fortunately
there was no passing at the time
and no damage was done.
Mr. B. II. Tompkins, one of the
most extensive and successful
farmers of Heard county, was in
the city Wednesday, and gives an
account of a terrilic cloud burst
which happened in his section of
the county on Saturday evening
last. On < 'entralhatchce creek
live mill dams were washed away,
and thousands of acres of corn
wen 1 overflown and much of it
practically ruined. Mr. Tompkins
himself had live hundred and
seventeen acres, measured, of corn
on the bottoms land of this creek,
and all was washed down and dc-
stroved.
