GORDON NEWS ITEMS.
Rev. W. D. Dewell returned
Monday from Telfair county,
where he had been looking after
the interest of his churches. He
reports the cotton crop very late
in that section.
Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Lewi^ of
Abbeville visited relatives and
friends here several days.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira B. Stinson
and children visited in Gordon
last week,
Messrs. J. W. Hooks and S.
W. Lee made a trip to Hawkins
ville last week.
Mr. J. T. Hatfield, Jr., of Mc-
Intyre, was here Monday on
business.
Mrs. Dr. R. E. Evans attend
ed the marriage of her aunt,
Mrs. Anna Dempsey, at Savan
nah this week.

Mr. C. C. McDowell and fam
ily of Eastman visited friends
here this week.
Mr. J. P. Brooks returned last
week from Sandersville where
he had an operation performed,
and came home much improved.
Mrs. C .C. Johnson had an op
eration performed at Sanders
ville last week and was improv
ing when last heard from.
Mrs. J. P. Brooks died very
suddenly and /unexpectedly to
her family and friends last Fri
day night of apoplexy. She had
been suffering with cancer and
had been very sick some weeks
ago, but she was able to be up
and seemed to be getting along
well up to the night she died.
Quite a large crowd attended
her funeral and burial at Clear
Creek church last Sunday. Her
; funeral was preached by her
; cousin, Rev. Ward. She was
truly a good Christian woman
(and leaves a husband, several
! children and grand-children, be
dsides many other relatives and
(friends to mourn her death. Her
loved, ones weep not as those
that have no hope, for they have
the Divine assurance that bless
ed are they who die in the Lord.
SALEM NEWS.
We are having some cool
weather with rain.
We had a large crowd Sunday
at Salem, and the children’s ser
vice was quite a success.
Miss Lelon Watkins is visit
ing her grand-parents, Mr. and
Mrs. E. Wynn.
Miss Bessie Sue Taylor is
spending the week with her un
cle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. E. A.
Watkins.
Mr. Arthur Dean and cousin,
Miss Jessie Dean, attended the
children’s service at Salem last
Sunday.
Protracted meeting at Salem
second Saturday in July. We
hope for a good meeting.

We are having lovely weather
at present. The recent rains

mers, and their crops are begin
ning to look fine.
Mrs. M. Renfroe, bf Philadel
phia, Pa., has just returned
home from a very pleasant visit
here, as the guest of Mr. W. W,
Smith and his daughter, Mrs.:

ed very delightfully at an ice
cream supper for her friends'

Mr. Emmett Rutherford is at
home for a month. His many

home. Their two handsome
boys are delighted at having a
sister to share their pleasures,
and we hope they will be suc
cessful in finding a pretty name
for her.

for his vacation, and spent a
very pleasant fourth Sunday at
