Mr. J. S. Spence Dead.
On last Saturday morning at
four o’clock the noble soul of Mr.
J. S. Spence winged its way to a
bettei 1 home.
Mr. Spence was 72 years of age
a veteran of the Civil war and a
resident of this county practically
all his life.
At all times he was a courteous
and refined gentleman, the ac
commodating friend and good
neighbor. The hospitality of his
home and his consideration for
others was one of his worthy
characteristics. He was true to
his friends and loyal to any cause
which he espoused though it en
tailed monetary loss and great
sacrafice of time. But he has
gone to his reward and we feel
satisfied that the God who made
him so good on earth welcomed
him above where all good people
go,
He was a devout member of
the Liberty ehurch from which

CHURCHWELL’S
“Sells it for Less”
the funeral services were con
ducted by Rev. J. F. Jackson of
Gordon. Interment being in
Stubbs grave yard.
Besides his wife' to survive
him he leaves one daughter, Mrs.
Robt. Stubbs.
We extend our sympathy to
the bereaved ones ank offer these
words as a consolation.
A precious one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place made vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
He is gone but not forgotten,
Never will his memory fade;
Sweetest thoughts will ever linger
‘Round the grave where he
was laid.

Thriving City of Gordon.
It is with pleasure we make
note of our visit to the thriving
little sister city of Gordon.
Besides being one of the pret
tiest little cities in this part of
the state it has a score of enter
prising citizens who are ever on
the alert for the future welfare
and uplifting of their city.
Gordon has a population of ov
er 750. Over 15 mercantile firms
a $250,000 pulp mill, a thriving
bank, drug store, millinery es
tablishment. cotton gin. planing
mill and other enterprising es
taqlishments.
It is only a question of a short
time before electric lights will be
installed—contract having al
ready been let. Mayor J. F.
Jackson, one of the leading citi
zens, states that it will not be
long before they will have a wat
er work system.
Every man we met seemed to
have the same inspiration-
Greater Gordon.
It takes this to make a town,
a town in which its citizens may
well be proud of. We predict a
1,000 population for her before
the year of 1914 rolls by.
We admire your city gentlemen
and the spirit with which you are
gifted and wish for you a rapid
growth.
We will gladly publish the
news from your city if we can
get them. Who will act as cor
respondent for us?
