was the “closing of school”—
the time when rules of parents
and teachers were alike sus
pended, the time when after we
had learned charades, recita
tions, etc., we, went upon the
stage to show forth our oratori
cal and dramatic powers. Just
a time of pure , delight to our
selves and all present. Just
such an ocasion was the “clos
ing of the school” at Mclntyre
on last Friday evening.
The charades, songs, recita
tions, tableaux,* etc., which made
up the evening’s program were
beautifully gotten up and well
learned. The teacher, Miss El
len King, has just cause to feel
proud of her pupils who did
their parts so well in these ex
ercises. There were a number
of out of town people present
and all voted the program most
enjoyable, showing splendid
training on part of teacher and
studious work on part of pupils.
CLEAR CREEK NEWS.
Cheer up, little maids. You

your trouble? Know your ink
can’t be frozen, for the weather

busy having a good time, so I
will try my hand for better
luck. But will say right here
just to have a good time certain
ly is not my aim in life.
The farmers of this commun
ity are very busy planting their
crops and everybody was very
glad of the good showers of last
Tuesday, as everything was
needing rain.

for am sure if the married peo
ple will take a part it will get
on so much nicer. Everybody

There is to be a picnic at
Clear Creek on Saturday before
the first Sunday in May, May

vited to come and bring a well
filled basket. The teacher and

been for some time preparing
for a nice program on that day,
and we hope they will meet with
a great success.
As this is my first time to
write for this paper, won’t make
my stay very long. But if the

ANNOUNCEMENT.
To the Voters of Wilkinson
County:
The impression has been pret
ty general from time to time
that I was or would be a candi- ■
date for one of the several offic-;
es in the coming primary.|
Many unfounded rumors are or I
were afloat concerning thns?'
possible candidacies. Some ol i
these rumors are to the effect j
that I would be gotten into a|
race by this or that faction, if i
there be factions, and that I nat 1
traded or been traded out of one
race and into another, so it is
to remove this wrong impres
sion and set at rest these rum
ors that I write this word of
correction. I am not now, nor
have I been at any time a candi
date for any office within your
gift, and concerning my men
tioned candidacy, if there be
among you those who sincerely
washed me well, thought me
competent and who spoke kind
words in my behalf, to these 1I
am truly grateful. I realize
that every man is more or less
in the hands of his friends, but,
should I ever become a candi
date for any office, then I should
run my own race, at my own *
time and in my own way, and
should in the highest degree hoe
my own row, and especially for
the three estimable gentlemen
who are in the race for Repre
sentative. ।
If my talked of candidacy in
any way disturbed your slum
