IRWINTON SCHOOL CLOSES.
The Irv m on school closed this
week after a most profitable year’s
work. Th_s is the first year that we
have had the benefit oi local school
tax and the enrollment was over one
hundred. The board of trustees wili
have the school building repaired and
get the requited number of seats to
accommodate the children before the
Fall term opens. Teachers will be
elected immediately for the ensuing
year, a number of applications are
coming in from all parts of the state.

MR. A. TEMPLES DEAD.
The death of Mr. Ambrose Temples
occurred at Mclntyre Thursday, April
13th. He was confined to his bed for
several w’eeks with paralysis before
his edath. Mr. Temples is survived
by two brothers, Layfaette Temples,
of this county and Elder Temples of
Bulloc hcounty. One sister, Mrs. M. M.
Jones of this county and a number of
other relatives. The body was inter
red at the Temples burial ground in
Bloodworth district Friday.

HUGHES-STEVENS.
The announcement of the engage
ment of Miss Mayme Hughes and Mr.
Herbert E. Stevens, of Toomsboro,
appeared in the S.nday American the
past week. The marriage will take
dace in June. Miss Mayme is the
youhrest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.
D Hughes. She is a beautiiul and
Hce-implisbed young woman and has a
host of friends in this city, having
nade her home in Irwinton until a
.ew years ago. Mr. Stevens is cash
er of the Wilkinson county Bank at
Toomsboro, also connected with other
usiness interests in that city. He
's a young man of the highest Chris
tian character and one of the most
popular and promising business men
in that vicinity. This will be of in
terest to many, due to the popualrity
of the young couple and the event
will be looked forward to with great
interest and pleasure. ,
