Sharp Order Sent To Guard Officers
Washington.—A sharp order has
gone out' to all National Guard offi
cers, forbidding them to communicate
to state authorities, formally or infor
mally, any information as to the move
ments of their own or other units of
the federal armies. Two recent in
stances where messages of this char
acter ha-ve come from Europe, reveal
ing facts which the government wish
ed to be withheld from publication,
prompted the action of the war de
partment.
Day Os Prayer Named By President
Washington.—President Wilson, by
proclamation declared Sunday, Octo
ber 28, as a day of prayer for the suc
cess of the American arms in the
war, in accordance with the resent
resolution of congress.
Impatience.
Beware of the first impatient word,
likely to rouse resentment, but take
especial heed to the second one, for
after a moment of second thought,
it is the more likely to exasperate the
hearer, by its unreasonableness.
Unique Method.
That western man who advertised
that he would not be responsible for
any debts contracted by himself or
anyone else certainly has hit upon a
unique method of reducing the cost of
living.
_ __
Its Lack.
“There is one bad thing,” remarked
tile manager, gloomily, “about these
muzzling ordinances.” “What is that?”
asked his star. “That their operations
are not extended to the critics of the
dog towns.”
Selects a Dig One.
Almost always, when one of our
leading .sstors or prominent private
convert :b.na ll.ds announces that, he
is going to state something in a nut
shell, he proceeds to select one at least
as big as a coconut to do it in.
Faith.
“Does she believe in the efficacy of
prayer?” “She certainly does. She
always says ’em before she looks un
der th" bod nt night.”
Pass the Cake, Please.
One would hardly look for much ex
citement in a well-regulated kitchen,
but we’ve witnessed some stirring
scenes in one.—-Exchange.
