Hope the army bookkeeper
will soon send a Bill to Eblis for
all the damage he’sdode.

Many a German may be dipp
ed in a certain large vat before
the herd is freed of the Kaiser
tick.
By winter time we think our
boys can “sit around the camp
fires” and sing “It’s a short
way to Berlin and we’ll get
there.”
It- is said that recently a
French widow took her two lit
. tie fatherless children to the
graves of some of our noble lads
who had given ALL to make the
world a safe place for little chil
dren and democracy and putting
her arms arohnd them said
“Children, your father lies bur
ied a short distance from this
place; he died that you might
live and live in freedom. Mil
lions of our Frenchmen have
died for the same cause, but it
seemed that in spite of all we
could do the Germans would
take our country and kill' you
and me. These two boys whose
graves you see here learned of
our- distress and came all the
way across the ocean, two thous
and miles, to keep these brutes
off of us. They DIED, children,
that we might live, and I want
you as long as you live and their
bodies remain bqried here, to
place fresh flowers on their
graves. It is a little thing for
you to do, but it is our best
now.”
That is only the feeling of
One French woman. If we
looked into the hearts of every
woman in France we would find
. the same deep feeling of grati
tude in everyone. This is pleas
ing to us but it would be more
pleasing if our own American
women one and all would feel
the same way toward our boys
over there and evidence their
feeling by doing their utmost to
support our government in its
effort to support them.
The placing of flowers on the
graves is a beautiful the thing
to do and no doubt when our
boys are brought home by the
thousands and tens of thousands
to be interred in dear old Amer
ica’s soil American Citizens will
to a man and woman be eager to
place flowers on their graves.
That can do them no good. Let’s
do. our part today and that will
keep many ot them from being
brought home in away to need
the flowers.
Congresswoman Jeanette Ran
kin is now a candidate for U. S.
Senate from her State. She has
made an efficient Congresswo- ,
man. The only thing which her ,
—J fry Kam
she was other than a man is
that she cried during discussion
/ which preceded the vote for U.
’ S. to enter the war. She cried
but she voted right.
The fact that our boys are
, fighting so valiantly and success
fully on the Western front is
accomplishing more than the
mere killing of Germans. Russia
; has heard of this and is deeply
. impressed by it. It is giving
her a confidence in Uucle Sam
i which is going to give him a
chance to untangle some of her
multiplicity of entanglements.
In taking control of telephone
and telegraph wires the govern
ment is but taking another step
toward the perfecting of the
Great Machine which, in our
opinion, is going to mow down a
Great Enemy and a great men
ace to Liberty, in the spring of
1919. Not only should organiza
tions, R. R. systems, etc., we
believe, be under government
control during war times but ev
ery individual of the naiion
should have plans for his time
and energies made for him by
the government for the period
of the war- In other words if
we would keep our pure demo
cratic form of government for
all time we must svbmit to an
autocratic form of government
during war times. We must if
we win out.

J. S. Davis, Ordinary
For Judge Superior Court
To the White Voters of the Ocmul
gee Circuit:
I hereby announce my candidacy
for the office of Judge of the Superior
Court of the Ocmulgee Circuit, for
the term beginning January 1, 1919,
subject to the rules of the Primary
ordered by the Democrat ic Stat
Committee.
It has been more than half a cen
tury since a citizen of Baldwin Coun
ty has held this important office. The
office has been continuously held by
citizens of Greene county, for nearly
twenty-four years, and by the pres
ent Judge, Hon. J. B. Park, for
nearly eight years.
Since the organization of the Oc
mulgee Circuit, no judge, so far as I
am informed, has held the office long
er than two terms, and if Judge Park
is re-elected the precedent of a hun
dred years will be broken.
I respectfully solicit the support of
the people of the Circuit, and if elect
ed, I promise faithfully to devote my
entire time to the discharge of the
duties of the office. I shall give the
people of the circuit, as far as in my
power lies, a prompt, energetic, econ
omical, and business-like administra
tion of the judicial business of the
circuit. If elected, it will be a pleas
ure to me, between the terms of reg
ular court to visit the several coun
ties in'the circuit, for the purpose of
disposing of such motions and Cham
bers proceedings as may arise, there
by conserving the convenience of
members of the bar and litigants.
I shall be deeply grateful for the
support of the people for this import
ant and honorable office.

High Soap Prices Arouse
Interest in Home Made Soap
Women all over the country are
saving money by making their own
soap. Try this:
First, set a large can or jar in your
kitchen; throw into it all meat skin,
waste grease, bones and other kit
chen scrap that has any grease in
it or on it.
When the can or jar is full, render
it (by boiling) and you will obtain
enough clear grease to make a big
batch of dandy soap, cheaper and
purer than any you can buy.
With Grease and Red Devil Lye
You will find heme soap-making
so easy and economical that it will
be a genuine pleasure. On the 1
label of every can of Red Devi!
Lye are complete directions for
making soap by the cold process
or by boiling.
Anybody Can Make Soap

ai home pays big because you buy
nothing but Red Devil Lye — the
